possible hidden firewalls issue.

OS-windows xp
isp-verizon dsl
firewalls- windows firewall
ram- 500 mb
hard drive- 180 gb
router- none
I'm trying to connect from my house
lw version-4.18.8
java version-1.6.0_7

hey guys im new to this forum. I believe i'm currently having a hidden firewall problem. I try connecting to lw and im getting the brickwall. I tried turning off all my firewalls it didn't work. I ran my anti-spyware software, restarted, still the same thing. Also im having trouble downloading torrents as well.

I"m sure this has been posted a billion times before but i searched the forum and found nothing that can take care of my problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you have any green connection bars at all?

Have you tried the fixes here? If LW Will Not Connect

Make sure that the Windows firewall's configured to allow LW: User Cant Connect - LimeWire

Is this your first try with LW?

Do you have a modem? If so, we need the brand & model.

Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?

Make sure that you don't have a firewall from Verizon...if their security suite is part of your internet package then there could be a firewall included.

Went to http://www3.limewire.com:6346 and it worked. Still only have one small bar. McAfee and Windows firewalls are not on but I do have a router but nothing shows as to inhibiting Limewire. Still can't connect. Running Vista Home, plenty of memory and disk space on 2.66Mhz desktop (Dell) Limewire has worked on this machine before but usually, it shows a fireqall. ?????? HELP

System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) ... which router model do you have? The test you did is for outward connecting, not for incoming messages which is what firewalls & routers (NAT) can block.

Router = Linksys Wireless WRT54G, 2.4GHz, 54mbps. It is routing a home network and my other computers don't have this problem. 2 using Windows XP and 2 using Vista. The other Vista is a laptop. My desktop with the problem has no firewals active. Hope this helps. Thanks

You could try port forwarding your Linksys for that specific computer. Port forwarding is computer specific (internal ip network based.) However that might affect the other computers if they are running of UPnP & you need to switch over to port forwarding. May need to port forward each of those also (a different port for each computer.)

That model router is reknown for not working well with p2p in UPnP mode. However if it's working well for you with the other computers then I cannot argue. :D I presume you are interfacing them via ethernet cable rather than wirelessly. Wireless for this model router is generally not super reliable when large bandwidth is used. (symptoms of wireless unreliability: bandwidth drops ... sometimes connection stops. This model router does not handle large amounts of messages well when not port forwarded.)
