Brick Firewall Symbol Still There Even Though Limewire Is An Exception!

My lime wire recently wont connect and stays at the "currently connecting" status. there is the brick firewall in front of the globe and limewire is detecting a firewall still even though under my firewall options i have it clicked as an exception not to be firewalled! how do i solve this problem and why is limewire still detecting a firewall when none should be present>?!?

Have you got a router if so this will have a firewall which has to be configured for Limewire -- also ensure that you are only using one firewall -- some programs like nortons have a firewall @ antivirus program -- in this case you would delete your windows XP or Vista firewall -- if you still have problems --

I disabled all the options like the Ultrapeer and both my firewalls and still have nothing. If I go into connections then it shows me that I am a leaf and that there are 9 connections but nothing will display in any search at all and the brick wall is still there, so....did I not turn off my firewall? Windows came up and said I did and I went into my system summary for my wireless and allowed Gnutella to be allowed to come thru!! ugh....thanks!!

It's my guess that your problem with the brick wall is your 2wire router. Some routers do not have good UPnP support. UPnP is where programs such as LW send requests to your router to open a port for listening during that session. Port forwarding the 2wire would be the answer. However, Else it is the wireless service. Your ISP's routers may have various ports closed. I've read of similar problems with wireless ISP services.

beckylynn4507 October 13th, 2008 07:35 AM

What I find weird though is that I have all 5 green bars and can search like a madwoman BUT I still have the wall. hhmm.....

snookslayer36 October 14th, 2008 06:04 PM

this works

Another suggestion is to close LW, install FrostWire & if it connects, then close it down, and redownload lime wire i had the same problem for weeks and i downloaded frostwire and it connected and then deleted frost wire and redownloaded lime wire and it works like a champ, good luck,Doug:xeri_ok1ani:

what? my information?

i'm not even sure what some of these are..
 Your Operating System... windows vista
 Your version of your Gnutella Client i have limewire 4.18.8
 Your Internet connection (56K, Cable, DSL)... cable
 The exact error message, if one pops up... it says "still connecting to the network" and then "detects a firewall" ..it's not a pop up, just the icons at the bottom.
 Any other relevant information that you think may help... i have McAfee Security Center.. i have limewire as an allowed program.

dubois_21890 October 15th, 2008 11:21 AM

Windows Vista
Limewire 4.18.8
Cable
No error message.
All firewalls are off, redownloaded limewire, tried frostwire, deleted 'gnutella.net', but nothing is working. The little firewall is still there and no connection is being made. When on frostwire, error message 'no connection found' came up. Help!

Hi lclinton,
After several searches on Telus and the Wlan Gigaset Routers that they offer, I find that ALL of their Routers are Firewalled.
Try Portforwarding the Router but the Very Important First Step would be to set up a Static IP. See Link >>>Setting up Static ip for Windows XP

Next Step would be to Portforward the Gigaset Router. See Link Below
Port forwarding the Siemens Gigaset SE567
Hope this Helps.

You could also try checking which ultrapeers you're connected to & possibly changing those. Check out this thread: Problems with the search
You can remove any ultrapeers that you're connected to at any time (connecting to different ultrapeers can make a difference in the results that you see), by clicking on the Connections tab & then right clicking on a host > remove. A new one will take it's place.

And if that's no help, delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within LW's options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things to the way you like them.
