What firewalls you have? McAfee 3. How much ram? 1GB 4. Hard Disk space available? 265GB 5. Connection type? Broadband 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Realtek Wireless Modem 7. Try the fixes here: If LW Will Not Connect Start off by changing listening port;) Also, check that the Windows firewall's off & that McAfee's allowing LW. There's more info about configuring McAfee here: Port Forwarding for the McAfee Security Center Many schools don't allow p2p use. You should check with your school to see whether they do or not. If there's no problem with the school allowing you to use LW, ask around & see if other people can use it without a problem. Do you have an external modem/router that plugs into your computer, or that you connect to wirelessly (might be in another room at home)? If you do then we'll need to know the brand & model. |
I checked my McAfee Firewall sittings and LW has full access. I checked with the school and other students. Apparently I am the only one having problems. My laptop has an internal wireless modem. I tried hooking the computer directly into the modem and still get the same thing. |
Have you been able to use any other versions of LW on this computer before? After you deleted LW's preferences folder, did you have to go through the setup wizard again? Go & find the gnutella.net file - how big is that file? Which version of Java are you using now & did you try the older Java version? Did you try a few different ports in the range mentioned in the help thread? |
This is the thing. I am on a brand new laptop. The one I had before this one crashed. The cooling fan quit working and the mother board ended up frying cause it got too hot. So with this new laptop I went from Windows XP to Vista. I have not been able to run any version of LW. Nothing I have done has worked. The computer came with a free trail of Napster already installed and it ran fine no problems BUT I am not a fan of napster so when the trail ran out I uninstalled it and installed LW. I tried the frostwire too and having the same problems. The file was like 25.3 MB, not all that big. As far as Java goes I am kinda stuck with Java 6 cause I need it for other programs I have and use. I tried an older version but the other programs weren't working right and kept asking me to upgrade. Regardless of the port I use I still have the connection problem. There has to be a simple solution to fix this ... :bangh: |
connection problems I have a desktop & laptop both with limewire pro. I can get turbo connection on my desktop but one one little green bar (starting connection) on my laptop. My firewall allows limewire. I did get turbo connection once on my laptop but cannot even connect to limewire at all. I am very frustrated with limewire. I have uninstalled & installed limewire a couple of times not. I have the most recent java. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET LIMEWIRE TO CONNECT ON MY LAPTOP. I have windows vista. |

You said that older versions of LW "weren't working right & kept on asking me to upgrade"...older versions will always ask you to upgrade. If the older versions were connecting then I'd go with them (ignore the upgrade nag - that's just LW trying to make money). I don't know if I can help you any more. The deleting of prefs folder is very often the simple solution but you don't seem to want to tell me how that went, so... I don't have a clue. Try Phex |
The server at www3.limewire.com is taking too long to respond; is what I am getting. |
can't get my limewire to connect - used all the help guides - still can't connect. why so difficult? |
I was having this same issue and tried all of the remedies above, including uninstalling and reinstalling Limewire Pro. It turned out that the problem for me was the gnutella.net file. Here's the post that helped me: ************************************************** ******* Originally Posted by Kath http://forum.limewire.org/images-mrc...s/viewpost.gif In XP: enable viewing of hidden and system files go to the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, then Folder Options, and in the View tab set it to show hidden files and folders and system files. It Might alternatively be at C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name\.limewire with certain LW versions in certain SPs In Windows Vista to enable viewing of hidden files in any windows folder click tools > folder options at the top. click on that and then view then show hidden files and folders. it is at C:\Users\name you use to login\AppData\Roaming\Limewire It MIGHT also be at C:\users\myname\.limewire Any confirmation of where you find it would be welcome http://forum.limewire.org/images/smilies/smile.gif This seems to depend on the version of Limewire you are using. Another way is to go to Start > Control Panel > Folder Options > Click on "View" tab > Click "Show Hidden Files and Folders If you find there is no gnutella.net file in the appdata or preference folder, it doesn't matter. Just put the new file in there anyway. It just means that Limewire did not actually create the file itself, which sometimes happens. Then: Just click (Do not right click) on this: LimeWire Forums And save (don't open) the file either to somewhere you can find it like your desk top... or, only if you know where exactly to save it to, to that location. You need to register as a member of the Limewire forums to do this. LimeWire Forums ************************************************** ****** Hope this helps!!! ShannonATX |
Thanks for helping!:) Replacement of the gnutella.net file is also covered here on this forum, in this sticky: If LW Will Not Connect ;) |
