Limewire recently being useless! (search problems, low connection, slow downloads)

Recently I have noticed a few changes to my connection to limewire:
I am no longer classed as 'ultrapeer'
I get hardly any returns for searches
In the bottom left I have 3 or 4 green bars and i used to have 5 green bars with an 'excellent' connection
My downloads are super slow and most downloads wont connect

My limewire used to be fine, I have AOL and am using a netgear dg834pn router.

P.S:I have forwarded all ports.

Write back soon please.:D

u on Aol UK? i am 2 and have a similar issue i think they have started blocking p2p

pee531 October 21st, 2008 07:33 AM

Yes I am on AOL UK, Silver broadband package

Lord of the Rings October 21st, 2008 07:54 AM

AOL rents lines from other ISP's. That's how they work. Also many ISP's in UK nowadays do have some kind of limit on p2p sharing ... shaping or ... time of day limits, etc. So with AOL you are never too sure exactly which ISP's real rules you are under. Most likely the most nearby one.

Haven't you guys had enough of things labeled American?
(Seen our test results lately? Following our economic lead?)

AOL has been know to restrict traffic and block URLs.
Also MSN - would not allow me access to any LW download page.

Peerless October 21st, 2008 02:58 PM

I'd much rather buy American than Chinese...I'm pretty sure one of my cats finally succumbed to her kidney problems because of 'additives' from China...their addition of lead into glazing of pottery is criminal along with many of their other activities....and don't get me going on their practice of skinning cats and dogs alive for their fur they use in their clothing

Can we stick to the subject here please.

Anyway how would I find which ISP AOL is using for me.

An ip check on your ip posted here (if you posted from home) is CARPHONE WAREHOUSE BROADBAND SERVICES. Does that ring a bell? Or were you connecting via another service when posting here, such as your mobile? :)

Limetastic October 23rd, 2008 02:06 PM

I just downloaded Frostwire and now Limewire seems to be working fine. What's the deal??

Lord of the Rings October 23rd, 2008 03:34 PM

LW had an old gnutella connection file. That's why we recommend these fixes http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html. I presume the newest LW update has corrected that problem.

AOL are 'throttling" p2p and 'blocking' Limewire etc - Page 3 - Legal Banter

:(

I have another computer with Sky Broadband on it, so I'd recommend changing to that. P2P works on it, it's fast, it doesn't cost much, it's even free if you already have a Sky TV account.

With any luck Free Napster will be available in the UK soon... right? :shoot:
