Limewire destroyed by Sun Java Update

I have a very serious problem with Limewire, and it's not related to my modem, router, firewall or cable connection.

I upgraded my Sun Java from "version 6, update 7" to "version 6 update 10" and two programs got completely destroyed. One program was Firefox 3.0.3 and the other was Limewire version 4.18.8!

I uninstalled the Java update which had also affected my Internet Explorer 7, and then reinstalled the old version of Java 6.07. My Internet Explorer was instantly repaired, but my Firefox and Limewire were destroyed.

I was able to completely fix my Firefox on the third attempt, by uninstalling, deleting the contents of the "Chrome Registration" folder which had 5 errors, AND by removing all registry entries pertaining to Firefox.

However, Limewire is still not connecting to the servers. The "Connect" text cannot be highlighted in addition to "Connections," "Console," and "Logging." Yet I'm connected to the servers with all 5 bars of signal strength, according to the bottom icon monitor.

Java 6.7 shows as good and being attached within my "Help ---> About" screen. So I'm confident that all is back to normal with it.

But, I cannot search, share, or download. I've reset everything in Limewire back to it's original factory settings, and uninstalled/reinstalled 3 times.

Limewire does not appear in my Registry. I am assuming that there is an "invisible Limewire file" which was corrupted and remains somewhere on my computer.

Does anyone have any ideas regarding this?

Computer Specs as follows:

Intel DG-965WH
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
4.1 gig RAM @ 800 MHz
Windows Vista Ultimate 64
NVIDIA 8500 GT (512MB)
ATI Wonder TV HD-600

Thanks in advance for any input or guesses. :)

Try Birdy's suggestions here.

1. In LW go tools > options > searching > basic & check whether the 'show license warning' box is ticked. If it's ticked , untick it > Apply > ok...see if that makes any difference.

2. Problems with the search

3. Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within LW's options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things to the way you like them.

Thanks so much Remoc!!! --- Deleting the hidden folders after uninstalling worked.

I'm back in business, thanks to you!

Have a great day. :-)
