Default LW Does Nothing

For the past couple of weeks, Limewire does NOTHING. I click on it and my computer doesn't respond. It worked fine, I left for work and came back home, then nothing. I have completely uninstalled it (Both using the uninstall process and also deleting EVERYTHING). I have tried every suggestion on this board: Firewalls, Frostwire, etc, and nada. I'm not very technical, so if anybody can help, you're gonna have to walk me through it.

Most I can tell you is I use Win XP, I'm on a cable connection, and I'm running LW 4.18.8.

Please help

LW Needs Java to Function. Have you checked to see if there may be a Java issue ??

jet228:

Same situation here...and it was doing it before this last upgrade.

Was working fine for me less than 2 weeks ago, I signed on 2 days ago to download a tune and I coudn't connect. I saw the notifier for the ugrade and thought maybe that was why, so I did the upgrade to 4.18.8 and it still won't connect. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times to no avail.

Ive ruled out anti virus and firewall issues, as it WAS running just fine with it before.

I'm on Vista Premium

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If upgrading to Pro, it's best to delete the LW preferences folder as Remoc suggested. There's also the Gnutella file that for some versions of LW was out of date & needs replacing.

Sometimes a combination of these ideas works http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html as it has for me even recently. Sometimes too many incomplete files can crowd out LW from connecting properly. There may be other reasons, but at a guess UPnP is not communicating properly between LW & your modem/router because too many signals being sent out at the time LW is trying to connect, be it due to incomplete files, OOB, Ultrapeer settings, etc.

If still no good; System details - help us to help you (click on blue link) would give us some clues.

BTW Pro support is very slow dare I say it.

BTW do you know what 'fake' files are? Can you recognise them? They tend to crowd the connection & best deleted if recognised.

I have the latest updates on Java. Also would like to mention, this is NOT a firewall problem. I tried shutting off the firewall and it's still a no go.

We have a couple different things going on here. Jet can't access LW at all and Rocky can't connect. Is this correct ??

Jet, try this even though your Java seems ok.

Try uninstalling all versions of Java from add/remove programs and then use Crap Cleaner to clean the registry.

Try updating to the latest version of Java here Java SE Downloads (First JRE 1.6.10)Useing the JRE Offline Installer.

Rocky, Take a look at this Link. Replacing the Gnutella.net File has done the trick for Many Members.

If LW Will Not Connect
Hope this Helps.

Remoc:

I can't connect meaning that LW DOES open up but the connceting bar at the lower left gives me ONE green box, sits there for awhile and then goes to 'disconnected.'

Checked Windows firewall and it's OFF. Running Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 on a DSL 3.0 connection.

Tried several of these links that you provided and it's still a no go.

Are you seeing a Wall over the Blue Globe ?? Which indicates a Firewall. May be in your Router. Please supply the following Information, in paticular the Make and Model # of your Router. It could even be your ISP Throttling your connection.

System details - help us to help you -> Provide these details when you post!!!

Also Noticed you Upgraded LW. Sometimes Deleting the Pref Folder will Fix this Problem. For some reason the Prefs get corrupted after an upgrade. If you try this, write down your settings as this will delete them and you'll have to go back and set them up again.
