Can't connect or search after troubleshooting 1. OS version? Windows Vista Home Basic (incidentally, the same problem occurs on my XP laptop (512MB ram, 8GB, version 4.16.8) and my iBook G4 (512MB ram, 2GB, version 4.14.8)) 2. What firewalls you have? McAfee Security Centre 3. How much ram? 1GB 4. Hard Disk space available? 78 GB 5. Connection type? ADSL broadband 6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Netgear DG834G v3 7. Where are you trying to connect from: Home 8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? LW 4.18.8 (don't know how to find version of Java) 9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? BT 10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Says, "Your test worked!!" 11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. I share the connection with two laptops that connect wirelessly to the internet through the router, one is on right now 12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? It's a new problem, started a couple of months ago 13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yep, brick wall with one green connection bar 14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? UPnP is enabled 15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? McAfee Security Centre 16. What country are you living in? UK 17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? I updated from 4.14.8 to 4.18.8 today to see if the problem would fix, I disabled the firewall today but it didn't fix the problem, the wireless router was bought about 2 months ago :shoot: |
See whether port forwarding helps. The instructions for the DG834G (no instructions for v3 but hopefully these are the same) are here: Port Forwarding for the Netgear DG834G Make sure to set up a static IP address first - there's a link for this within the link above;) LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the router's config all need to be the same number. Otherwise, there are lots of different connection fixes to try here: If LW Will Not Connect Make sure that LW's being allowed through the McAfee firewall - try removing the current rules for LW & adding them again from scratch: Port Forwarding for the McAfee Security Center |
