Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences. File names are not required to discuss your issues. If filenames are copyright then do not belong on these forums & will be edited out or post removed. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated. Commercial advertising is not allowed in any form, including using in signatures.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive. Picture sample attachments in posts must not include copyright infringement.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. Keep in mind a forum censor may temporarily automatically hold up your post, if you do not see your post, do not post again, it will be dealt with by a moderator within a reasonable time. Authors of multiple copies of same post may be dealt with by moderators within their discrete judgment at the time which may result in warning or infraction points, depending on severity as adjudged by the moderators online.

10. Posts should have descriptive topics. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick. Reiterating, do not post your email address in posts. This is for your own protection.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit or used for commercial advertising. Commercial weblinks cannot be used under any circumstances and will result in an immediate ban.

13. Dual accounts are not allowed. Cannot explain this more simply. Attempts to set up dual accounts will most likely result in a banning of all forum accounts.

14. Video links may only be posted after you have a tally of two forum posts. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam. Video link posting with less than a 2 post tally are considered as spam.

15. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

In LW file > disconnect. Wait 5 minutes then file > connect.

Delete LW's preferences folder when LW's properly closed. See point 3 here & also point 2 if you've used older versions of LW in the past (there could be a folder in either location).
Fixes for LimeWire
This will change all of your settings within options, you'll have to go back through afterwards & reset things. If you're not sure of your settings, go through LW's tools > options & write them all down, so that you can reset things later.

Was LW connecting with that Java version before?

I have disconnected Limewire and waited 5-minutes and connected Limewire back and it is still trying to connect to the network. It feels like it takes 10-years before I can get connected to search any thing.

I don't have any older versions of LimeWire. I have upgraded from MusicETC v5.8 to Limewire 4-months ago and everything has been fine with no problems until the past couple of weeks.

How do I go about deleting the Limewire preferences folder?

And to answer your question about was Limewire connecting with that Java version before? The answer is "yes" everything has been working fine with no problems connecting until recently. It use to just connect on a dime with no problems.

Here's how to delete your preferences folder(s).

You might have 2 preferences folders - one named .limewire & one named LimeWire. Sometimes there are 2 folders, because different versions of LW have the folder in different locations.

1. Make sure that LW is closed properly by opening task manager (ctrl/alt/del) & see if there's a LW process running. If there is, end that process.

2. Go to Control Panel, double click on Folder Options & then click on the View tab. Make sure there's a dot in the radio button next to 'Show hidden files and folders' then click Apply & click OK.

3. Now go to Start > click on My Computer > double click on C drive > double click on the folder with your username > double click on Shared. Once you're in the Shared folder, look for a folder named .limewire & if you have a folder named .limewire, delete that whole folder. if you don't have a folder named .limewire then that's ok. Close all windows that you have open.

4. Go back to Start > click on My Computer > double click on C drive > double click on Documents and Settings > double click on the folder with your username > double click on Application Data. Once you're in the Application Data, look for a folder named LimeWire (there's no dot in front of this one & the letters aren't all lower case). Delete that whole folder named LimeWire. Close all windows that you have open.

5. Restart your computer. This isn't always necessary, but just to be on the safe side...do it now anyway.

6. Start up LW & see whether it will connect.

Lightbulb "LimeWire is currently connecting to the network."

I was having the exact same problem. I had already tried to Uninstall & Reinstall idea but that did not resolve it. Then I found the following information on a web site ( User Cant Connect - LimeWire ) & it seems that performing the last step before you restart & reinstall, which is deleting the directory ( C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\LimeWire for XP users and C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire for Vista users), is what resolved it.

Here is the information from that web site:

Full Uninstall & Reinstall

If modifying the settings in your security program does not fix the connection problem, try doing a full uninstall & reinstall of the LimeWire software. This will often resolve connection issues related to security programs blocking LimeWire or unreliable connections to the Gnutella network. Please make sure to follow these instructions COMPLETELY to ensure a full uninstall/reinstall.

Windows XP
  1. Completely shut down LimeWire by right-clicking the system tray icon located in the bottom-right corner of the screen. (You may need to expand the system tray by clicking the left arrow button).
  2. Uninstall all previous installations of LimeWire from Add/Remove programs by going to: Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
  3. Delete all LimeWire icons and installers from your computer (you may find some on your desktop).
  4. Right-click the Start menu, then select Explore. Using the folder tree on the left side, navigate to the following directories, and delete them (you can right-click the folder and select Delete):

Before deleting these folders, go to Tools > Folder Options >Advanced, then select Show Hidden Files.
    • C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\LimeWire (where username is the name you use to log on to Windows)
    • C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\.limewire
    • C:\Program Files\LimeWire
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Redownload LimeWire (or LimeWire PRO if you previously purchased it) and run the installer.
Windows Vista
  1. Completely shut down LimeWire by right-clicking the system tray icon located in the bottom-right corner of the screen. (You may need to expand the system tray by clicking the left arrow button).
  2. Uninstall all previous installations of LimeWire from Add/Remove programs by going to: Start > Control Panel > Add or remove programs
  3. Delete all LimeWire icons and installers from your computer (you may find some on your desktop).
  4. Right-click the Start menu, then select Explore. Using the folder tree on the left side, navigate to the following directories, and delete them (you can right-click the folder and select Delete):

Before deleting these folders, go to Organize > Folder and Search Options > View, then select Show Hidden Files.
    • C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\LimeWire (where username is the name you use to log on to Windows)
    • C:\Program Files\LimeWire
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Redownload LimeWire (or LimeWire PRO if you previously purchased it) and run the installer.
Hope this helps!

Jeff

Hey Jeff, to The Gnutella Forums.

Appreciate the Help, but This Thread is over a Year Old.

If Peenut Hasn't figured it out by now, he never will.

I believe Birdy explained the Same thing in her Responce. That would be the Prefs Folder she Speaks of.

Here is a Link we like to use here on the Gnutella Forums that is Loaded with Great Info.
