Please help, not getting past splash screen.

As the title says, I've not been able to load Limwire to any point beyond the splash screen. It gets to a certain percentage loaded then it goes away. It shows no quick launch icon nor does it show up as an actuve program in the task manager. I uninstalled my previous Java and updated to the lastest version and I did everything else mentioned in the troubleshoothing guide. I removed all traces of previous Limewire versions (folders, shorcuts, ect. from application files and program files), but it still does not want to run. Please help!

Ok check your add/remove program -- make sure that you only have 1 version of java installed -- In Limewire Links (below) click on (Fixes for lw when lw isnt operating as it should ) if this doesn't fix your problem click on (system details) fill in and post back here -- Also PSE check that you have "normal" Font Size chosen for the complete Install Dialog Box and its Next, Back, etc buttons to show.

To change Font Size in Windows XP Home, right click on an empty space on the DeskTop, choose Properties, Appearance, Font Size. Choose Normal.

1. OS version? XP Pro Version 2002 Service pack 3
2. What firewalls you have? Windows Firewall, Sonic Wall
3. How much ram? 1g
4. Hard Disk space available? 26.5Gb
5. Connection type? broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Don't know
7. Where are you trying to connect from? house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? most recent version of LW and 6 update 10 for Java
9. Who is your ISP? Optimum
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? It said "Your test worked!!"
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? No, I'm the only wireless connection at this time
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user? I had it over the summer, then got rid of it and now want it back again.
13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? unknown since my problem starts before it even opens.
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Think it's UPnP enabled but I could be wrong.
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Panda Antivirus
16. What country are you living in? USA
17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? Not really. The only thing I did was remove old versions of LW and Java as part of the original attempt to fix the porblem.

So I uninstalled all Java versions and all traces of LW and reintalled Jave 6 update 10 then went through the process of downloading LW again and tried to run it without Firewalls or antivirus programs active but still had the same result. :/

make sure that you are only using one firewall software -- sonic wall or windows firewall not both -- disable one -- also is panda antivirus a suite if so that will also contain a firewall -- if so disable your others and run this one -- make sure you have configured it to allow limewire full access -- also your router will have a firewall -- you must also configure this to allow limewire full access -- if still no good after doing this -- you might have to change your java version to this (Java 2 Platorm Standard edition-J2SE 5. update 11)-- just follow the prompts -- make sure you download the offline version (size = 15.80mb) --- delete your current version first

nilloc55,

When you deleted LW's preferences folder (as Skyliner suggested in post #4), did you also look for a folder in the old location of C:\Documents and Settings\your username\.limewire?
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/window...ng-should.html
Sometimes you can have 2 folders, if you've used older versions of LW in the past... so both folders need to be deleted.

If that doesn't help, right click on the LW desktop icon > properties > compatibility. Try running in compatibility mode for Win 2000 or NT.

Do you have Alcohol software installed? If so, look here.
LW starts then close, log: resolve_virtual_call

You could also try the advice here: FIX: LimeWire won't start or closes immediately
