Connecting Problem

I have a Vista system and cannot connect to LW. I have checked my McAfee security settings and a
even disabled my firewall settings. Not sure of RAM and Harddisc space but sure there is plenty. I connect through a wireless cable modem, Motorola model SBG900 at my home. I have LW 5.0.11 and Java 1.6.0. My ISP is Comcast. I tried the test an got a page load error (Network timeout). I have 1 other computer in the house that shares the modem. This is my first attempt at LW and I tried installing 4.14.10 version and when it didn't work I followed all instructions on uninstalling/reinstalling. When I look in advanced tools I see that I am behind a firewall and do not support firewall transfers. As far as whether I am port forwarding or UPnP enabled, I haven't a clue what that means. Like I said I do have McAfee installed and I live in the US.
I sure would appreciate some simple step by step help for this as it's been a little frustrating and since I paid for LW, I would like to be able to use it.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure where you got LW 4.14.10 from because that version was released 18 sept 2007. If you just downloaded that version then you certainly did not get it from the official LW site. Which makes me wonder if you purchased Pro from the official site or a scam site.

Port 6346 is blocked for you. If it's not Comcast then it will probably be your wireless router, though your firewall might also be blocking it. Software Firewalls usually only block incoming, not outgoing. However there are exceptions.

I can give you the instructions for Port forwarding if you are interested in trying.
1. The very first step & this must be done first is setting up a static ip; Vista static ip instructions (click on link).

2. Port Forwarding for the Motorola SBG 900. The instructions for LW 5 are same except it's found in a different location: go to tools > options > advanced > super really advanced > firewalls, to find this option. ;) For many routers, not sure about this model, you need to reboot the router after making such changes. At least rebooting the computer. ;)

3. For mcaffee; Setting up an exception for LimeWire in your software firewall (click in link). If using McAffee firewall, make sure Vista firewall is disabled.

* btw you do not have to choose port 6346. You could try an alternative one. Such as any between 49152 - 65535. eg: 64049
But just make sure whichever port you choose is reciprocated in LW's settings & your mcaffee firewall if it requires a port setting for LW.

OH another point, if the other computer in the house is also using LW, if it were using the same port, this might be the reason for the port not working thru the router. ;)
