ConnectionFailure is flying high
Default No support has been able to fix my connection

1. OS version? Windows Vista Home Premium; Yes I have an Administrator account.

2. What firewalls you have? Windows and Mcafee.

3. How much ram? 2GB

4. Hard Disk space available? 202GB

5. Connection type? DSL

6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? Sympatico Speedstream

7. Where are you trying to connect from? House

8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? Limewire 5.0.11; Java 1.6.0_12

9. Who is your ISP? Bell Sympatico

10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: My test worked.

11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? 3 computers total; LAN network; one Vista, one XP, one 98

12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. My connection has failed more times than I care to count.

13. Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface? Yes I have a firewall.

14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? Port Forwarding: 6346

15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? McAfee

16. What country are you living in? Ontario, Canada

17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Recently changed to LW 5, but the connection was failing prior to this; Updated Java to reccomended version according to Java website; 4 updates for Windows (3 NB and one optional)

I have used every support page throughout LimeWire; and have spent a total of over two hours with McAfee support IM Chat technicians trying to fix my connection. If anyone knows some special secret as to how I can make this work please share them. I have been though the auto settings and the Manual Port Forward, nothing is working. The numberof times I have added, deleted, re-added, and modified permissions and system services totals an explosion of my patience. HELP

1. If you are using McAffee firewall, then make an allowance for LW but disable Vista's firewall; Setting up an exception for LimeWire in your software firewall (click in link)

2. If multiple computers are used on same LAN network, then each MUST use a different connection & listening port. Go to tools > options > advanced > super really advanced > Firewalls & make sure both connection & listening ports are different from each of the other LW's running on the other computers. If not, change them to a port between 49152 - 65535. For example, port 64049 sounds like a good one.

3. 'Remove' the gnutella.net file from the preferences folder. It appears for LW 5 it is best removing it rather than replacing it. LW will create a new one itself.

4. Follow these tips If LW Will Not Connect (click on the blue link) about disabling Performance.

5. If all is still no good, then perhaps await the next LW 5 update since the programmers are trying to solve a few problems. In meantime you can go back to LW 4.18. If problems with that version then see suggestions in no. #4 above.

* Which model Speedstream are you using? You are able to give a special 'pass' to specific programs in Speedstream NAT/firewall rules.

Default #4

I believe it was the link on number 4 that told me to delete the gnutella.net file. I already had tried to do this but couldn't find it anywhere, it told me how to find it. Right after getting rid of it I got a full connection.
