Reboot Follies (trouble establishing connection after reinstall)

OS version? Windows XP
What firewalls you have? Zone Alarm
How much ram? 1.5GB
Hard Disk space available? 120GB
Connection type? Charter Cable
Limewire Pro 4.9.28/Java 1.5.0_03
Limewire Test works
Not a shared computer
I'm an experienced Limewire user working on a fresh install
I do have the brick wall in front of the world icon
I am using ZoneAlarm, McAfee (8.5.0i)
I'm in the U.S.

I hope that covers it. This is really just an idiot check: I've scanned through the various FAQs and tried various fixes, but my symptoms don't check out properly.

I recently had a hard drive infection and had to run a clean install of Windows XP. I remembered, however, to save LimeWire to disk, and I installed it as soon as the computer was up and running again.

Since I reinstalled, I haven't been able to get a consistent connection--and just a week ago, before the hard drive problems, I was connecting at "Turbo" regularly. I haven't been able to get a connection all afternoon, but this morning I made it all the way up to "Good."

I'm sure this is just some setup oversight on my part, but I'd appreciate any technical help you could offer. I lost my entire file library in the crash, and as a result I'm starting over. :(

Thanks,
RR

Have you tried the fixes in the thread below?
If LW Will Not Connect

Your Java version's pretty old, so start off by updating that. Next thing to try would be deleting LW's preferences folder. Otherwise, try the rest of the fixes.

Where are you connecting from (house, appartment, school, work etc)?

Are you using a modem/router? If so, what's the brand & model number?

What options do you have ticked within LW's tools > options > advanced > firewall config (ie are you using UPnP or manual port forwarding, or do you have 'do nothing' ticked)?

Thanks for the feedback. I tried as many fixes as I could fit into my free time on Sunday, but I have a few more to run through. I think I tried out the likeliest candidates, however.

I updated Java this morning (to version 6, update 12) this morning, though LimeWire has yet to acknowledge the change on the Help/About Limewire page.

I'm connecting from home, from a personal computer, through a Charter Communications cable modem. I don't think any system blockages should occur from the server end, although I do have a university antivirus package (Norton) protecting my computer.

The modem I'm using is the one Charter provides, a Terayon TJ 715.

I have "Use PnP" ticked in the firewall config menu.

Thanks again for your help. I'll double-check my Java install and keep plunking through the fixes.
