I get the error - LimeWire Launcher Error...Limewire needs the Java Runtime Environment to run (Java 6 if I try to load Limewire 5, and Java 5 if I'm trying to load LW 4).

I run windows xp, successfully ran LW 4 for a couple years and upgrade to 5 and it ran fine too. We got a registry virus on 3/1 (lost access to task manager). Ran our standard norton and added AVG and cleaned the virus's and used AVG board to clean the registry. Have removed AGV since then. Have used ccleaner too. BUT - since that time we can't access Limewire.

YES - I've removed and replaced limewire and java, more than one version, more than once. Always clean and defrag after, run searches and clean temp files, etc. I tried to see if I could run frostwire, same error. I can run Sharebear - hate it.

So - here I am - musicless. Can you help me? I figure it's an error somewhere in the registry and I've scoured the net for the answer.

Java does runs on our system, we can play runescape and I can verify the Java version through their website. Yes, I've run through their forums too. I'm hoping you're the answer!!!

Do you only have one version of Java installed at a time? If you're running more than one Java version then remove all but the latest update via Control Panel. Restart the computer & see if LW will launch.

Are you installing Java using the JRE offline installer? Sometimes an online install can cause problems due to the installer becoming corrupted. If you've been installing Java online, then try the offline installer (it's a bigger file).

And are you installing Java first, before you install LW? Sometimes that can make a difference.
