limewire v4.18.8 connection problems UNRESOLVED i have tried all of the options shown in the sticky post and have now got the connection to work, but alas, it only stays connected long enough for me to type out my search then it switches off again! anyone sussed out the problem yet? i have always used this version, had changed no setting via limewire or my antivirus or anything else it worked, i opened it the next day, it no longer worked. i have also downloaded 4 other versions and get the same problem, i also tried another p2p client which worked fine but was rather pants :) i have windows vista 64bit, 2gb mem, a spare 14gb on the hard drive, broadband connection using bt homehub isp provider - bt as i said before, ive used this version for years and went to bed with it working and woke to find it broken. im stumped |
you'd think after all these failed connections tht LW would realise its LIMEWIRE thats the problem, not peoples ports and so forth, time to go download a better p2p program, limewire is full of viruses and porn anyway |
If you've gone back to LW 4, you might be advised to 'replace' the gnutella.net file. If LW 4 Will Not Connect (click on the blue link). :) Alternatively delete the entire LW preferences folder. ;) |
thanks. tried all that, it just seems to disconnect once it actually gets the connection now, before it wasnt connecting at all, so i'm getting there slowly but surely lol |
any news on this? still not working and has now reverted to just one bar on connection and will not search for anything, if i try and change and settings it all locks up |
Which software firewall are you using? Which version of Java are you using? Where are you connecting from (house, apartment, work, school, student accommodation etc)? If there were any fixes in the 'if LW 4 Will Not Connect' thread that you didn't try, please tell us which ones. After deleting LW's preferences folder, did you have to go through the setup wizard again? Did you replace or delete your gnutella.net file, or both? Find your gnutella.net file & hover your cursor over the file - how big is it? Are you using the HomeHub with UPnP enabled or a port forwarded? If you haven't tried port forwarding, the instructions are here: Port Forwarding for the BT Home Hub Use a high port number (eg 65000). LW's listening port, port in the 'manual port forward' box & port forwarded within the HH setup must all be the same number. Before port forwarding, most routers require you to set up a static IP address for your computer. There's no mention of that in the HH port forwarding instructions so I assume it isn't necessary:confused: |

BTW something you should be aware of is BT do shape p2p sharing bandwidth at certain times of day; ISP's known to BLOCK or shape p2p bandwidth or specifically Limewire for more details. The worldwide lists also give more details about this (scroll down to 8. (a) & (b).) :) |
