Connection Problems Problems getting the LimeWire or WireShare program connecting to the Gnutella network.
(not about connecting to files, that is a Download/Upload Problems section issue.) Please supply system details as described in the forum rules.

![]() I have a lynksys router and every time I start Lime Wire the router power light will blink and I will lose my connection. As long as lime wire is running the router will continue to disconnect and reconnect. This is also a problem if I use utorrent. Need some ideas |

![]() Which model of Linksys is it? My guess is you are running your router in Wireless mode correct? My two suggestions are: 1. (a) Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link), so that the high number of incomplete files do not flood the router when LW is trying to connect. (b) Set LW to only connect manually. Go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Connection, & disable option to connect on startup. Then when starting up LW, wait 2-3 minutes. Then go to menu bar, File menu -> Connect. 2. Port forward the Linksys. I cannot give specific instructions without knowing the exact model number. ![]() (connecting to your Linksys via ethernet cable would also increase reliability.) |

![]() My model router is BEFSR41, it is wired not wireless and I have set the Port forward. I tried again last night and after about half an hour of disconnect and reconnect the system seemed to stabalize and did not do it anymore. Thanks for your reply |

![]() Did you set the port forward correctly? It must be done in this order else it needs to be removed & repeated properly; (1) set up a static ip: Setting up a static ip, and then (2) Port Forwarding for the Linksys BEFSR41v2 Other than that that I can think of is ... disable all the performance options & OOB searching as described here under 4th & 5th paragraphs: If LW Will Not Connect (click on the blue link) Keep in mind what I suggested in (1) in my previous post. ![]() |

![]() Thanks for taking the time to read this, reply if you have any ideas. I have a very similar problem. I have a wireless linksys router, but believe that my frequent disconnection is due to the modem. Let me explain: We have 3 computers which all see each other fine, and use the internet just fine. When I use Limewire Pro, especially when downloading more than one file at a time and usually when exceeding 600k/bps the internet just seems to turn off. I use Firefox and go to: 192.168.1.1 and login to my Linksys router and release, wait 5 secs, renew the IP on the router, then it begins working again. In some cases I have to do this every 5-10 minutes for hours if I want to complete my file transfers. When we have limewire running on 2 computers the problem is exponentially worse. There are never any issues when Limewire is not in use. If this helps, my internet connection is Time Warner RoadRunner. (who I have had out here several times and finally got the cheap bistards to put in all new cable and a signal booster on the line at their expense. Complaining gets you everywhere.) ![]() Anyone who has advice would really be appreciated. Also I am new to these forums and feel free to move this post if it's in the wrong spot. -MrPeapers |

![]() I cannot find any specific issues reported about that model of Linksys. I personally use Vuse (Azureus) for torrents, & others here also recommend uTorrent. uTorrent is supposed to be easy to use, & both are recognised at private torrent trackers, unlike LW. We do generally suggest using a specifically designed torrent program for torrents rather than LW. Perhaps limit the speed settings on each of your LW's. Instead of unlimited, choose a maximum speed. Unfortunately LW has less speed settings now than they used to. ![]() Something which 'might' help is removing some of your incomplete files if you have a very large amount. If using LW 4, see Tip: Purge the Downloads Queue! (click on blue link). If using LW 5, just select those incomplete files with zero % downloaded & press cancel. This can only be done one incomplete file at a time from the Download window with LW 5. Cancelling downloads in LW 5 also deletes the incomplete file. |
