Starting Connection Problems

Hi, Hope someone can help with a problem that seems to have started over the past few months after using Limeware successfully for years. I am running Vista Business(as admin) with an Intel Core 2 Quad (2.40ghz) & 2 GB memory - Limewire version 4.18.8 as I really dislike the new Limewire 5!). I get connected to Limewire easily enough, which increases to turbo charged and starts downloading - and then, for no reason, the downloading halts at 0 per sec & the connection reverts to "starting connection" and sticks there. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting but still never get past starting connection and downloading will not restart, even though the connection to the users is still showing. If I close Limewire down and re-open it starts off again as Turbo charged and restarts the downloads, but then reverts back to starting connection after a while. This seems to happen every evening and all weekends but not so much overnight and during a weekday. Is it to do with busier perids & how can I overcome it as it stops me downloading anything when I am off work? Hope someone could help please. By the way, I use a wireless internet connection which has no problems. Thanks

Most likely due to you using Tiscali services who are reknown for shaping p2p sharing bandwidth. One alternative, though it might not work is to change both your listening & connection ports to a higher number like between: (49152 - 65535). Go to LW's menu bar, Tools -> Options -> Firewall, & you will see the options. :)

Check Tiscali on this list: ISP's known to BLOCK or Filter p2p or specifically Limewire (Click on blue link)

After Tiscali walked into UK, they have taken over many UK ISP's, even if the original company retains its original name. Difficult to find non-p2p shaping bandwidth/blocking ISP's in UK nowadays. :(

Connection Problems - Connection Starting Fix

Hi
Thanks for your help and I will give this a go. On Saturday even at midnight could not get it past Connection Starting but today Sunday, it is working fine so far. Yes, Tiscali took over Pipex - worse luck - since then nothing but problems & the tech advice is laughable - even if you can understand what they are saying! When my website went down I was told that there was no support or advice for websites as no one there knew anything about them!

Starting Connection Proems

I gave the Port number change a go but unfortunately it made no difference. I understand why Tscali may be the cause because of their policies, but I now find that I cannot leave LImewire on overnight as I used to, when I go to bed it is working well and downloading & when I return to it, the "starting connection" problem is back - even at 7am in the morning!! Not only have any downloads not progresses much further but of course no one would be able to download from me. Overnight used to be the best chance of completing a large download or torrent, but not any more. Any other suggestions would be welcome, although I gather that if it is Tiscali responsible, there is not much that can be done.:(

For Torrents either uTorrent or Vuse would be much better.

Did you get your website back up? That sounds rather poor they do not offer support any longer for sites.

Starting Connection problems

Hi
Thanks for that will try installing one of them and forsaking Limewire. Yes, I eventually got the website back up after 3 phone calls at premiym rates speaking to soneone who I couldn't understand and who read off a crib sheet and obviously didn't know anything about his subject. I eventually cheated and went to through to the Commercial Department Tech help - who obviously had someone who knew what they were taling about - they immediately said they would reset the "nickname" for the website - two seconds and it was back online but on the black side, I was told that Commercial Tech help wasn't available for Home users. Obviously Home users didn't need anyone who knew what they were talking about!

Is there any ISP left that is recommended for everything?

ukbobboy01 would be the best member to ask about best ISPs in the UK. Whilst he is retired as a helper on these forums. He does occasionally drop back through. He was here an hour ago. It's been great to see him back. I'm sure he'd be happy to advise where he can. :) Oh, and mickjapa108 also drops back in occasionally, also from UK.

Good to hear about getting the site back up. Pity about their attitude.

Whilst I recommended uTorrent/Vuse for torrents, LW is still fine for Gnutella network. ;)
