ARrggggg! Vista Firewall and Kaspersky! OK, I installed an old version of Limewire Pro that I had laying around onto my new Windows Vista Computer. Quad 4 processor, mega RAM, mega memory, etc. Limewire Pro Version 4.12.3 Java 1.5.0_03 When I open Limewire, I don't get any error messages, but it continuously says "starting connection" with one bar and never goes past that. I've read the firewall stickies. I've got Windows Firewall and have added the Limewire folder and all subfolders as eclusions and trusted applications. I've also got Kaspersky Antivirus and added Limewire as an exclusion there too. I've run full scan on Kaspersky and rebooted the computer and I still can't get Limewire to connect. It still keeps showing a firewall picture. Now what? |
So what else did you try? And what is your modem/router model? |
you say you have Kaspersky's AV...is that all you have?...i.e. do you really have their security suite (which since you say you added LW as an exclusion certainly indicates that)? assuming you do have Kaspersky's firewall, then there is definitely a conflict with having the Windoze firewall active also....try turning off the windoze firewall (you don't need it if you have Kaspersky's) |
Likewise, my Windows XP has both Kapersky (security suite) & XP firewalls & they do conflict with each other if both are left on. |
Lord, I've got Comcast as my ISP with one of their cable modems. I turned off my Windows firewall, rebooted the computer (made sure Firewall was still off) and restarted Limewire. Still doing the same thing. Will not connect and shows the picture of the firewall still. I double checked my Kaspersky and it shows Limewire as an exclusion. I'll uninstall it and try re-installing it, then try it again. Do I have to open up a certain port? I know I had to do that to play certain games online. Just curious. |
Ok, I re-installed Limewire Pro and it still isn't connecting. Same thing again. Getting pretty frustrated here. |
I updated my Java also, then re-booted. Still no luck. Still showing the firewall. Still not connecting. |

Not unless it was part of the standard install. Where would I find that file? |
Nevermind, I found it on the web. I'll give it a try when I get home. Thanks, and I'll keep you posted. |
I downloaded Eclipse, went through all the BS to set that up, then import the source code, then run Limewire Basic (which also wouldn't connect), I have no idea what is going on with Gnutella.net, but I freakin' give up. I'll find some other way to download songs. This blows. |
don't know about present day, but Comcast was at one time blocking p2p traffic.. try out Phex and see if that connects for you...or BearShare expired beta.... |
Whilst I do not recommend doing this for long, did you try turning your software firewalls off to see if that made a difference? There are different gnutella.net files around If LW 4 Will Not Connect (click on the blue link) & I supplied another here: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/343558-post10.html But as Peerless suggested, Phex is fantastic. And the BearShare Beta is the best of Bearshare. |
Listen to Lord of the Rings, replace your gnutella.net file (because it's not deleted in most normal uninstalls) and I had lots of trouble until I replaced that file. (look at some of my more recent forum entries to find out how and where to replace it) LOR is pretty smart, and if he says to replace the gnutella.net file that is what you should do. The firewall picture is normal (it justs means that limewire has detected that you have one, it does not necessarily mean it is working at excluding you from downloading files) |
Deleting the gnutella.net file was most of the time the solution that fixed it for me especially after an install of a different Limewire version. Under Vista, the file is located under the folder <UrAccountName>\.limewire. Exit from Limewire first and delete that file. You don't even need to replace the file as it seems to re-create itself the next time you connect to the network. |
Turn off Kaspersky Hi Dear Just pause Kaspersky protection then try to turn on the limewire, and u will notice that the LW is working normaly, but the problem is how to work both softwares together!!? |
Pausing Kaspersky should only need to be done whilst installing LW. This has never been an issue for me but is for some people. Also make sure LW is on Kaspersky's exception lists. I use Kaspersky with Win XP. |
