Tried all suggestions and still won't connect.

I have no trouble opening limewire, however the "connecting" icon down the bottom of the page, just doesn't connect. It was working, then I uninstalled nortons and now I'm having no luck. All my details are below.

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows 7
2. What firewalls you have? only windows firewall, limewire is allowed. I have even turned the fire wall off and this still doesn't help.
3. How much ram? 40GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 410 GB
5. Connection type? wireless broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? not using router
7. Where are you trying to connect from house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help bar > About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version
LW5.4.6 Java 1.6.0_17
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Blink (Optus network)
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? _didn't work took me to aol search page
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Have used Limewire before
13. (a) Do you see a brick wall in front of the blue world icon at the bottom of LW's interface (only for LW 4 users)? _ (b) How many red or green bars do you see at bottom left of LW's screen? (all red or grey or only 1 or 2 green bars means disconnected)_ click here to see LW 5 Sample image, OR click here to see LW 4 Sample image
If you're using LW5, there's no firewall icon. In LW go tools > advanced tools...there you'll see whether you're behind a firewall or not.

No information is listed All grey bars
14. For those using a modem/router, how is your modem/router set up...are you port forwarding or is UPnP enabled? N/A
15. What security programs are you using (antivirus etc)? Some people might not be aware that their security suite includes a firewall :) Currently no anti virus, as i am also having trouble installing avg
16. What country are you living in? Sometimes there are ISPs with the same name in more than one country (eg Clearwire in the USA & also in Ireland). Australia.
17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? Uninstalled nortons

Here's hoping someone can help. :)

Something is blocking you from connecting. If you could not access the test page in Q.9 then it means something is blocking that port access.

Re: AVG, see http://www.gnutellaforums.com/host-c...tml#post347634

Wireless Broadband? Perhaps you can explain a little more about this. ;)

Hello, I have the same issue. I upgraded from Limewire 4.0. It was working fine then all of a sudden it says no internet connection. I don't see any disconnect/connect button as in the other version. How do I reestablish a connection? Thanks

Windows Vista

First place to start would be here If LW 5 Will Not Connect :)

Hi I have the exact same problem with all the exact details as TraceP, I still can not figure out a solution, I have uninstalled AVG and have now installed AVAST and still nothing. My Limewire will just not connect it just keeps saying it is "connecting". It appears to be a setting problem however, I've done everything instructed by the "If LW 5 Will Not Connect" and the issue remains. Do you have any other suggestions on how to tackle this problem?

This all started after I upgraded my Limewire when I was asked if I would like to, which I did I have the latest version now and soon as I went to download music the connection problem arose.

Hope someone can help.

System details:

1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98) Windows 7
2. What firewalls you have? only windows firewall, limewire is allowed. I have even turned the fire wall off and this still doesn't help.
3. How much ram? 40GB
4. Hard Disk space available? 286 GB
5. Connection type? wireless broadband
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers? not using router
7. Where are you trying to connect from? house
8. What version of LimeWire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help bar > About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version
LW5.4.8 Java 1.6.0_17
9. Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider)? Blink (Optus network)
10. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there? Will not load (page cannot connect)
11. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up. No
12. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user. Have used Limewire before, this is my first problem.

17. Has anything in your setup changed recently? Have you updated your version of LW or Java? Have you added any new software or new hardware? Have you updated any software? Have you moved house, changed internet plan or ISP etc etc? Uninstalled AVG, installed Avast instead. Java and LW are up-to-date.

If the port test doesn't work, it can mean that something (often ISP) is blocking LW's default port. Which listening port are you currently using? Sometimes the port test can fail due to other things - are you using PeerGuardian2 or Peerblock? In the past, my port test has failed & I didn't realise that PG2 was the culprit :giggle:

Most often, when someone has sudden connection probs after updating, deleting LW's preferences folder is the fix. After you deleted the prefs folder, did all of LW's options revert to default?

Are you connecting from the same house as before you updated LW?

Which version of LW were you using prior to updating?

Have you tried reinstalling the older version, to see whether things start working again? Different versions of LW behave differently on different computers. If you can install the previous version then give that a try (latest version isn't always best for everyone). And if you don't have the installer saved, let me know the version & I'll see if I have it saved.

Have you tried connecting late at night (I'm not sure what Blink's peak times are) - say after midnight? Any difference?

The latest Java is actually 6 update 18 - but since your port test isn't working, it probably doesn't matter :)

I guess you're using a USB modem. Is there a brand or model number showing?

Hi well I have deleted my preference folder and changed my listening port I have done everything from the Limewire 5 will not connect page.
My current listening port is 65000
I have no idea as in which of these I may be using sorry PeerGuardian2 or Peerblock?
Yes I am connecting from the same house as usual
No I havent tried reinstalling the older version I cant remember which one it was I asume it would of been which ever one is before Limewire 5 as I always have the latest version.
I always try and connect at a suitable time for downloading so I asume if my internet speed is good i should be fine.
Yes I am using a USB modem which has always worked fine with my Limewire I have never had a problem in the past only now and nothing seems to work I really just don't no what to do??

Thanks for your help.

Maybe you were using either 5.4.7 or 5.4.6... the last version of LW 4 (before LW 5) was released in September 2008.

If you like, you can download 5.4.7 or 5.4.6 from this page: Old Version of LimeWire Download - OldApps.com
You may need to delete LW's prefs folder again after installing an older version.
