Connecting to Limewire

Help! -- please!!
I have used Limewire on my desktop for many years, but recently I cannot connect. I have a home network which consists of my desktop (the main computer), a router, and my laptop. The strange thing is that my laptop connects OK. How is this possible?

My desktop is an old Dell, with 384 mB of memory and a few GB of storage. I am running Windows XP Pro on it. My laptop is an HP with 1.5 GB of memory, and lots of storage. I run Vista on it.

It is not a case of any firewall blocking the program. The required permissions to accept Limewire are given.

Any ideas as to how to resolve the problem?

Thanks.

Have you checked suggestions here http://www.gnutellaforums.com/connec...t-connect.html :)
Make sure both LW's are not attempting to connect using same port. Your router will only allow one program to use a particular port.
I'm wondering if your router is only giving UPnP for your Vista machine & not the desktop. Is your XP system up to date? :)

Be interesting if you tried the above suggestions after Rebooting your computer whilst not using the laptop's LW at all. This will free up all the ports & UPnP your router is offering. Either reboot main computer router is connected through, else reboot the router itself (simply turn off for a minute.)

Thanks, Lord. I'll try that tomorrow.

Hi Lord:
Tried a number of things you suggested:
turned off Windows XP firewall (yes, XP is up-to-date)
turned off LW on the laptop
unplugged desktop and router and waited a minute; then plugged back in; tried LW again (still would not connect)
You said "try removing the present LW rules from within your firewall's config" -- how does one do this? Also, if I have the firewall turned off, does this matter?
Not sure if I am narrowing things down, or not.
Just wonder why so many people have problems connecting. Also, in the past, I have been connecting OK. Then, out of the blue no connection. Then, again, out of the blue I can connect again. Just not this time. Is Limewire a flawed program?
Thanks again for your help.
