help limewire not connecting!

i have a windows xp and i downloaded limewire about 5 months ago and it was working fine up until about 1 month ago. i did the delete preferences thing and it worked...but then after i closed limewire and reopened it it went back to one bar i did the delete the prefs thing again and it didnt work! plus i got the message saying it didnt have an active internet connection or a firewall is blocking limewire. but i'm sure i have internet connection and i deactivated the windows firewall and all my other antivirus/antispyware programs....just to be sure though, i went and did the open firewall thing from the link and it worked...then it stopped. i DO have a router though...maybe thats the problem? i'm not really computer savvy and i have no idea what to do..and sometimes limewire will connect but thats 1 in maybe 20 chances it will...and even then it stops by the 3rd bar PLEaSE HELP!
