"Sharing" over 200 mp3 etc but it appears that no one is getting /able to getmy files

Hi, I hope I am not posting something that has already been answered a million times.. :) I did look over as much of the "Check Here First" section (which is nicely done I might add)but with no luck...

OK I want to be a good citizen of Gnutella so I share (or have in the appropriate folders TO share) many many files.. I even allow those pesky little freeloaders... cause hey, we all had to start somewhere ;) The problem is that it seems that in the last 2 days no one is grabbing files from me..I can grab files as usual and prior to a couple days ago I had 5 or 6 people at a time grabbing mp3s progs etc..

I DO run a firewall but not on the ports relating to Gnutella (I also experimented by shutting down the firewall for about 8 hours and still no sharing) so it would appear that thats not the problem.. I have checked out everything I could find to try to isolate the problem but I am coming up with no possible answers.

I have a massive connection, a powerful platform and no internal system problems... So I am frustrated..

I LOVE the Gnutella system and wan't to help it grow by sharing but I need help  to find out why I have become a involuntary freeloader...

Thank you and I appreciate all of the GREAT stuff you folks are doing to make this system as awesome as it is :D Thank you Gnutella Nut 2002!

Try sharing some porn and you'll get more upload requests than you could ever want. - (If you don't get upload requests for porn, something is very wrong with your LimeWire, indeed.)

Gnutella_Nut2002 May 3rd, 2002 09:06 AM

LOL Thanks for the suggestion... I might just try that ;)

Gnutella_Nut2002 May 3rd, 2002 10:07 AM

Well, I just went and grabbed a bunch of *hit (xxx) and no uploads --the search (incoming) window works so I can see what people are seeking but no connections -- Very confusing.. So anyone with suggestions (even if it is like the porn one ) :) I am open to.. I hate to have all of these files programs etc and not be sharing them with the Gnutella community!! :( Thanks

Patience, little grasshopper, patience. I'm sharing 5000 mp3s and sometimes, I'm only receiving a few dozen upload requests in several hours. (People definitely seem to prefer porn and divx movies over good music...).

Thank you  I will try a re-install if it dosen't work soon :)

uploading with xp & 2000 doesn't happen

I've had the same problem uploading with xp and 2000. It just doesn't happen. the uploads start but shortly there after they turn to 0.0. I'm not using a fire wall and I can't figure out what the deal is. The only answer I could have is maybe windows 95???? Please help I need to upload with xp or 2000......

Taliban June 13th, 2002 03:34 AM

If the uploads drop to 0 kb/s, it's not your problem, is it? There are many possible explanations for that (e.g. a host was disconnected without closing the socket). If you happen to see a 0kb/s upload, just kill it but it's really not a serious problem.

metalheadz June 13th, 2002 02:35 PM

dude. who are you to say it's not a serious problem. I CAN'T SHARE/UPLOAD any files. That is a pretty big problem if you ask me. It's happening to lots of people and thus the more people who upgrade to xp means the less files out there for people like you.

Hello!

First you have to make sure that indeed no one is getting a decent connection with you for them to upload a file from you to check this do the following:

In LW preferences:
Tools>Options>Sharing

Here make sure that the proper folder is selected which means that the folder under Sharing should be exactly the same as the folder under saving(Options>Saving)

Also check the following in LW preferences:

Options>Uploads>Basic
Here make sure that you have assigned atleast 80% or preferrably 100% of your upload bandwith and also make sure that the option Auto Clear completed uploads is not checked(very important I had that critical error once).

Now check the following:

Options>Uploads>Slots

Here make sure that you have some uploads available I use the following settings Allow 20 uploads per person,5 Start Upload Slots, and 20 Max upload Slots.

And also check this:

Options>Advanced>Preferencing

Here make sure that you do not have set the requirement to high I have set the value to 20 files that someone have to share to be able to download from me but you can set a lower value but please do not allow freeloaders set the value to atleast 1 file.

Also check the following:

Options>Advanced>Port

here make sure that you are listening on port 6347

When you have checked all this then click Apply button then OK then just wait and see if people are making connections and are able to download from you.

Also one last thing that you can check right now is under
Tools>Statistics

Here you can see how many uploads that have gone trough your computer I usually gets something like 250-1000 a day and I transfer about 2Gigs each day.

Also make sure under the Connections tab that the port selected is 6346 and not the same as your listening port 6347.

Hello metalheadz!

If you have tried all the stuff that I have mentioned in my previous post then also check under the Library tab do your shared files appear there or do they not?.

I have seen many posts here recently from XP and 2000 users using the latest version of LW but apparently the previous version worked better so try a downgrade and see if that helps.

This seems to be the most serious bug in LW for a very long time since it is so harmfull to the Gnutella network after all if less and less files gets available on the network when more and more XP and 2000 users upgrade to the latest version then it is very harmfull to Gnutella since it is loosing a wast amount of data and files that no one can download successfully maybe the files do not even show up on the network.

Just let us hope that the LimeWire developers fixes this bug in the next major realese which is 2.5.Untill then I would advice to downgrade to the previous version which was 2.4.0 I think(not 100% sure) or maybe an even older version like 2.2 or above. We cannot afford so much good quality content get lost on the network because of a bug relating to XP and 2000 users and after all those users are very many.

metalheadz June 14th, 2002 03:19 PM

it's not only a problem in limewire but in all p2p software as i have tried them all

Joakim Agren June 14th, 2002 04:31 PM

Hello!

If it is not just LW but all clients that are affected by this issue then it must be the OS itself and not a bug in the clients that are to be blaimed for this.So I searched for a solution and I think that I maybe have found the solution to your problem:

How To Enable Filesharing in Windows XP!

I hope It Helped you and many others!

No uploads even requested

Joakim,
I too have this problem. Hundreds of mp3's and no uploads. I went through your suggestions step by step, and waited for several hours, but no uploads. Other Gnutella freeware clients I use seem to get hits and d/l requests regularly, but NOT the bought and paid for LM software. I do see many inbound searches coming in, and they should clearly hit my files, but NOT one upload to date.

I even completely reinstalled LM, to no avail. Any other suggestions? I am running W2K.
My thanks!
