Sounds to me like your home and portable players may be a bit out of date. Many players 3 years or older have a difficult time reading computer burnt cd's... due to a difference between home burners and the industrial burners the record companies use. Lets face it .... Our burners pale in comparison to the ones the industries use.

I have the same problem with my 3 year old Alpine unit in my car. And like me, you may just have to break down and buy new gear! As far as home units go, any respectable maker of today's CD and DVD units will play your computer burnt CD's.

I hope thie info helps.

I'll bet your software already has the ability to convert mp3 files to cd audio files. Look through your burning preferences for a CD audio option, or to convert files to AIFF files (which is the cd audio standard). You could also check the help file of your software and ask it how to burn mp3 files as cd audio--if your software doesn't support this I'm sure it will tell you there.

If it turns out your program doesn't convert mp3s into aiff files, then there are lots of other options to choose from. Go to either **EDIT**, download.com or tucows: all three sites have a variety of excellent players/recorders for a variety of platforms. If you're a Mac user, then I highly recomend iTunes. Music Match Jukebox is a cross platform player that is also excellent (the Windows version is far superior to the Mac version, alas).
