Lock-up with Windows Me Every time that I try to use Limewire 2.5, it completely locks up on me. I have successfully downloaded some songs but it always ends up freezing. Not even cntrl/alt/del works. I have tried uninstalling and installing but still the same problem. Today it even locked up when I went to their website to try and find support!?!?! I do not have this type of problem with anything else. Anybody have an answer...........PLEASE?!?!?!? |
do you have a good install of java JRE?. You might want to uninstall the Java JRE using add/remove. Then uninstall LW same way. go to www.java.sun.com and d/l Java2JRE 1.4.0 se. Install it and then redownload LW. I had to do that a few times before I could get things moving smoothly. |
point of no c+a+d My XP locks up so bad with limewire that I can't even get any response from ctrl+alt+del. And that's one hell of a lockup. Java in it self does not lock up that way, unless the code tries to do some really dirty shi*. A good remove of limewire and a manual delete of all that belongs to it should solve your problem. And then you don't have to stand those evil pop-up commercial adds and junkmail either. Anyone feel like starting a GNU-wire project using C instead of java and making it totally GPL? _-Z-_ |
Java JRE? Irregularjoe, I have just enough computer knowledge to be dangerous. All I could find on Add/Remove was Java Runtime Environment Standard Edition v1.3.1_04. Is that the one I'm looking for or is it for another program? |

irregular joe, OK. I removed my old Java and downloaded/installed the new Java....it still locks up completley. I did, however, discover purely by accident that if I am playing Solitaire while I am downloading songs, it has not locked up yet. BUT I have to have the game running before I start Limewire. If I try to do it the other way around, it locks up. Any further advice or do I need to start preparing for a format job? Thanks again for the help. |
did you reinstall a new LW after the Java reinstall? |
