Default 'File Not Found' - During Upload

I don't understand...

I'm uploading files that I know are in my shared folder and available for the users, yet in my monitor window, it reads 'FILE NOT FOUND'.

Default You misunderstood the inquiry...

Maybe I wasn't clear...

I'm UPLOADING to other users. I am NOT searching for my own files...I already know that I can't do a 'self' search.

Others are try to download the file from me and yet the 'status' bar in the MONITOR window reads 'file not found' but I know the file is there; I put it there myself.

Default hmmmmm???

I'm not sure I quite understand...

Where will I find the directory reference. Are you refering to the directory in which my files are uploaded from? I have other files in this folder that get uploaded regularly without a hassle, but I'm curious as to what you're saying.

Could you please rephrase that?

I'm on a Mac OSX running Limewire 2.5.4

Thanks,

-d

I've had that happen once or twice, in my case it seemed to be a momentary LW glitch because they uploaded on the next attempt.

Are you saying that it happens consistently? No idea if this will make any difference, but how about removing those duplicated and renamed files you mentioned in another thread. You don't need them, and perhaps they're confusing LW somehow, being the exact same size, etc.

Angry

I have the same problem happening to me (like about 50-100 a day...)

I am also a dj, sharing "mixed" files. Does this have something to do with it? Is it possible for someone to "scramble" the contents of our shared folders, so they don't work?

A month ago, I was averaging about 50 compleated uploads a day, now it is a trickle of about 3 or 4 and a zillion "file not found messages." I think there is something more to this then just the freeloader issue.

the file not found message is because of the way the gnutella protocol is designed (or atleast the way limewire and most other clients use it). each file is given an 'index number', and when someone searches on the network for a file, limewire returns the index number of the succesful match. however -- this index number can change over multiple limewire sessions, generally from adding or removing shared files. since limewire returns 'busy' instead of 'file not found' (if all upload slots are full, even if the file isn't found), other clients will continue trying to request the file that doesn't exist. however -- this should not effect the number of completed uploads.

the reason you're probably seeing less completed uploads is because of the new 'swarming' features that clients are adopting. only the newest limewire version (in cvs) displays the actual requested amount, counting the progress from there. prior versions would simply display the filesize of the requested file, and if the client requested the first 150kb of the file, the progress bar would stop at 1% and the status would be interupted (instead of complete). the newest version will correctly report the requested / completed statuses, so the overall completions will be higher.

I have the latest version of the software. I have tried re-installing it, and still I come up with these messages.

Today, there were NO completed uploads, only the "file not found" messages.

Is it possible that someone has hacked me?

If so, how can I fix the problem?

I'm running on both Macs and PCs
