Why are all of my downloads taking so long?? Please help...

Hey everybody, I just got my new G4 laptop and downloaded limewire. I'm running on a college ethernet connection so when I set the program up I selected T3 or higher internet connection. Every song I have tried to download takes a very long time (around 20 minutes if it even works), and I can't figure out why. The program is not very useful to me if it takes this long for each download. Even on my computer at home I could download songs in about 3 or 4 minutes on a cable connection... does anybody know what the problem could be? Should I have selected a slower internet connection. I have only tried to download songs from people with T1 or higher so I'm not sure what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for your time.

oh and by the way, when youre spending 37 thousand dollars a year for college, i hardly consider the internet connection "free"...

To offer another datum point, I've had the same problem running LimeWire at work on a laptop where it screams at home using my DSL connection. I was curious to know if the slower work performance might have something to do with the firewall? Since I don't really need Limewire at work, I didn't spend much more time on the problem. However, under the advanced options, I did find an area addressing firewalls. It may be worth your time to explore those options.

Well better you, than the moderator who is getting flamed....kinda makes a disagreement unfair when one of the parties can edit the others comments...

In my own defense I might mention that none of my posts were originally edited by any other mods. due to wording... Flaming is one thing.. I never edited any flames against myself the things I edited were inappropiate language/ pictures. At no time did I ever remove ideas from either of you twos posts.

In both cases where the issue of download speed came up I think feel the problem is almost certainly the local network connection. As with ISPs, business and institutional LANs health are the responsibility of the local LAN adminiustrators... some do a superb job and others are often marginally competent... general performance may suffer due to poor design and implementation of the network... too many folks trying to squeeze through the same segment of a network for example. There are also cases where the ports for Gnutella are completely blocked or throttled through router bandwith management tools. In the end... I don't think that your client can do anything about the problem... compare notes with your peers it they are using the same appliactions and see what their results are.
