not worth the time

i wish someone could make a program that actually works

I have to admit, it hasn't worked out very well for me either over the last few weeks. When I first started using it, it worked fine. But since I downloaded the 2.6.3 upgrade, it is very, very rare I actually am able to download a song. Mostly I just continue to get the Requery Sent Waiting message. Are there any other options for a Mac user?

Daz October 3rd, 2002 04:16 PM

Not sure what this is all about, but I've found that kazaa (www.kazaa.com) to be a viable alternative. You still have to be patient with downloads, but certainly none of this 'incomplete' rubbish with a folder full of half a dozen unfinished downloads of the same file! Since changing to kazaa I'm yet to have an unsuccesful download. (no I don't work for them!)

I agree....I have used Kazaa for 2 years now with super results. I never waited more than 2 hours for a requested song. My husband bought me a Mac for my birthday, and I can't use Kazaa anymore with it. I am a spin instructor and I also used to use Audiogalaxy for music for my classes. They are now defunct. I am now a Limewire user and I think it sucks big time. I have been waiting 3 weeks for 5 measly songs to download. I keep getting Requery sent blah blah blah. How long should I wait before I give up? I feel like the people at Limewire are in a room laughing at all of us, saying..."Look at these idiots....they think if they wait long enough their song will actually download...what a bunch of losers!!!
Yeah, I agree with the guy who said "don't use Limewire" I wish I never had downloaded the upgrade for 10 bucks. I should've flushed 10 dollars down the toilet. I would've gotten more excitement out of it.
Sorry, I am usually not so negative but I am so disgusted.

I crashed 3 macs, all at once.. imagine that.. it CAN be done.. you just have to have the hate inside of you.. and go for it...

not really it wasnt on purpose but they did crash. :) and cnt+alt+del doesnt work :(

Kaaza ...

... almost killed my system, clogging it with spyware. At least LimeWire does what it says it does, and nothing else.

Don

<<The rest of my response is a bit off-topic, but suitabe in your case.
Personally, I don't see the so called "Mac advantage", when 90% of the programs these people want to use are not compatible with their OS. Frankly, I'd rather have the whole gambet... and crash once a week... or maybe loose 20mb of a download occasionally. Just my preference, I guess. >>

Yeah, I totally agree. I still haven't warmed up to Mac yet myself, but I wanted to see if Limewire sucks as bad as I thought, so I loaded it onto my office PC. Guess what. Still sucks. So far my spinning classes have had to do without new music until I find a program that actually works as well as Kazaa. Can't rely on my office computer for downloading from Kazaa. I just tried it with Limewire for comparison and sure enough, Don't use Limewire it blows.
Anyone have any recommendations for Mac? (even though it is not my preference, it is all I have)
Thanks

mrsteve0924 October 19th, 2002 09:46 PM

is that spin instructor really waiting 5 days for a download in "requery status"??? who in their right mind would wait more than 10 seconds for one of those to complete? kill it and move on. use some common sense

Unregistered November 2nd, 2002 09:07 PM

If you want mac alternatives just search for kazaa or gnutella at http://versiontracker.com/macosx/index.shtml for OS X or if god forbid you are still using something other than OS X at http://versiontracker.com/macos/index.shtml

I don't know why limewire downloads seem to fail left and right but hopefully it's something they can fix someday.

Limewire & Mac & PC's, oh my

Curiouser and curiouser... Just my 2¢ here. I don't get the problem. I use Limewire all the time and have very, very few problems. Especially compared to other networking situations. I've downloaded some pretty obsure things from single sources and not had to wait more than a few minutes. Oh, and I will only run Limewire on my Mac. I have absolutely no doubts that using it on my PC would be a complete disaster since it hangs & crashes constantly no matter what I try! Networks can be frustrating on occasion, but that's just the nature of the beast.

peerless says:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

yep...no problemos here either....

I am of the opinion that most of these TROLLISH posts are from ppl who want to steal LimeWire users to their client...they probably think it is just standard business practice to act in such a fashion..

I think they are jerks (actually I would use more applicable wording, but it would just get censored.....)

That's okay - those who use Mac's tend to think outside the box anyway, and can come up with our own creative substitutions for "jerk", all of which would be highly appropriate...

LIME WIRE IS NOT WHAT THET SAID,EVERYTIME START YOU NEED TO RESUME ALL OVER AGAIN IF YOU WANT TO COMPLETE HALFWAY SONGS ,CRASHES MOST OF THE TIME THE SHOULD NOT ASK FOR MONEY IF DOES NOT WORK AT ALL ,SOME SAID IF DOES NOT DOWNLOAD KILL IT ,THEN I SHOULD DO IT ALL THE TIME ,LIME WIRE STINK. YEA

Advertisement blocking

Download and run Ad Aware (free from www . download . com)

This will remove the Advertisements from Limewire. You may get an error, "Script error on this page. Continue running scripts?", to which you should answer NO.

That's all there is to it !!

I'm another Mac user who has been having problems with LimeWire. And no I'm not a jerk and I'm not an a**hole. I think it's silly for people to get so snippy about a program!

anyway, it has nothing to do with me not knowing how to work with computers or programs, Limewire has been outright unresposive, I can never get songs without requery's and if I do get songs it takes a long time though I'm on DSL. My screen will flash white every minute or so, and my whole computerwill slow down when running limewire. Even clicking on buttons takes several seconds in Limewire. I haven't found any other good programs and have yet to receive any help from these forums, so as you can imagine I'm frustrated too. Does anyone have any HELPFUL suggestions?

Btw just to throw in my 2 cents, Macs are not as good in my opinion for popular programs. I'm a PC girl at heart because I owned one for many years before switching. But serious programmers, graphic designers, and scientists all prefer Macs. . .
