Sharing files but Limewire says I'm not I'm sharing over 1000 files from an external firewire drive over my network, but Limewire reported 0 files shared. I've added the volume to my shared list in prefs. What's the problem? I don't wanna be a leach! |
LimeWire can share files over a network - but it is slow. The main slow down is that LimeWire creates a hash for each file - calculating the hash takes a long time and a lot of file access. Over a network, this can be a real bottleneck. If left, LimeWire will eventually hash the files and make them available for sharing - but don't hold your breath. Try creating a folder with only one or two small files in (somewhere on the network) and let LimeWire share it - see how long LimeWire takes for the folder - this will give you an idea of how long it will take to hash your external drive. LimeWire only needs to hash a file once - after that it will remember the hash and won't make a new one unless you move the file or change it. Mark |
