Behind a Router requires special step?
 

I tried to access the firewall web page that is linked to from the FAQ page but I got a missing page error with tons of advertising popups so I'm asking my question here.

I am behind a small home Router with private IPs and a single public IP. Does this setup benefit from any Port Forwarding or such?

I have a significant number of attempts to download that fail after a Connect with the resulting Requerying not successful. Is this because both I and the other side both being behind routers? I do know that two people behind routers can prevent connections and am wondering whether I can increase my connection success rate by making a change in my setup.

My experience with downloading from behind a Linksys BFSR41 has indicated that it does not impede downloading. For folks wishing to upload it does seem to make a difference... I believe I have seen reference to implementing port forwarding in those cases.

I have the BFSR41 router too, supporting an I-mac as well as my PC. Limewire 2.44 on the Mac doesn't require any special tweaking to download or upload. The PC has version 2.65 on it, and I can't upload. The Shared Library folder shows lots of hits on the files, but nothing shows in the Uploads portion of the Transfer Window. And I can't download very easily either: the download area has everything cued up, but not loading. What can I do? I have a cable connection, and the default settings for number of connections.:confused:

Being the nice guy that i am, I want to share my files. But since getting cable and router I have been unable to have people connect. I have gone to options>advanced>firewall. Any ideas would be great. thanks

I just got Limewire to upload past my Linksys router! Here's a solution that worked for me:

Go into your browser, go to 192.168.1.1 and click on the Advanced tab--this logs you into your Linksys router. Then click on the Fowarding tab, forward ports 6346~6347 to your IP address. (i.e. 192.168.1.101) If you're on a Mac this would be the same IP address set in your TCP/IP control panel.

Go into Limewire's Tools>Options>Advanced> firewall and check the Force IP button and then enter your ip address: 192.168.1.101 and port 6346.

In the last post i just read, someone says they are using FORCE IP and entering their host IP behind the firewall (e.g. 192.168.1.x).

That don't make sense!

Isn't the whole point to enter the Internet IP address (the address being mapped/forwarded)? The Limewire application already knows the local host IP! It's the host's Internet IP (the address that is mapped/forwarded by the router/firewall) that Limewire doesn't know.
