Corrupt files Whenever I try to download any of the new Foo Fighter tracks I get a file corrupt message at the end. and songs are unplayable. Is this the result of some encrytion by the record company...or is it a bug in LImewire? |
Well, there are rumors that the recording industry is 'salting' the internet with bad files. However, a lot of these are due to faulty 'ripping' (converting existing audio to digital formats, like MP3). Sometimes a glitch in the net traffic corrupts the file. Worse yet, as more and more people download these dinged files, it gets harder and harder to determine if ANY of these are kosher. I listen to everything I download EVENTUALLY, but not always at the moment of download completion. This means others will download that file. If it's bad to start with, then several more bad bad copies of this file exist after they finish downloading; then, more people download from THEM.... All you can do is note the size and full name of a file. When you determine it is bad, find another version of the file with different specs and try, try again. Happy Liming! KenJ |
Because there are so many corrupt files, some of which I've downloaded, I have my downloads go to a folder that isn't shared. When I get around to it, I check it out and, if it's ok, I then put it in my shared folder. If it's bad, I trash it and try to find another. At least I can try to do my part not to share bad files. Now if we could just get people to quit sharing their Incomplete Folder/Files...;) |

Julie makes a very good point. You aren't doing anyone a favor by just downloading a zillion files and sharing them. You need to make sure the files are good by trying them before you share them. I also send my downloads to a "test" folder. When I have verified them I move them into one of my shared folders. Norm |
