Thanks Lee for a most illuminating post. I've read most of what I can find but can't quite get a handle on how to speed up my UPloads. Running LW 14.12.3 on WinXPhome. T'is a home machine on DSL cable and I have a hardware router. While people get through and can upload the speed never has exceede 3 kbs and often drops to 0 for a period of time. Downloads run up to 100+ (normally 20+). I've set Upload config to allow 3 per, with max 20 and allow 100% of bandwidth for uploads.
Can you shed any light on how I might improve life for my fellow sharers?
Thanks, Bill

Now that we have a good discussion about uploading and downloading can you help with the problem of, for me anyway, 98% of the files have viruses in them.
Any ideas on this subject.

Are you trying to download programs? Heaps of exe, zip & rar files are infected & it's probably best to stay away from those file types if you can:wink:
Have a look through the thread below, it has lots of info & tips
WARNING: Viruses on the network you should be aware of

These infected files are something we just have to live with for now. I guess some people will deliberately share infected files to sabotage p2p, others are probably just ignorant & don't realise that a file's infected...so they share it.

You're obviously scanning files with your AV...way to go! Scan all files before opening

I posted yesterday re the recent appearing of "title:not related to:" in virus packed search results. eg search for audio tik and tok. Resulting searches all wmv audio files, some very small, some normal. Hold cursor over any and the text reads title:not related to:tik and tok.

The file is pop-up loaded and a .exe file which contains a Trojan.

I have set filters as advised here, so what more can I do please?

I find this "not related to:" in the comments line of many of the searches I do.

I haven't found a way to eliminate this. I just stay away from downloading these types of results.

You may want to do a speed test 100.0Mbps is allot are you sure it isn't more along the line of 100kbps or 100KB/s. You can do a speed test at the link below. Then check with your ISP and see if they are shaping if you have already deleted the preference file.

That speed of 100.0 Mbs has something to do with the connection speed between your cpu and your modem(LAN speed not internet speed). Mine says the same thing, but my advertised speed is 1792Kbs/448Kbs. The actual speed is a little slower.

Default Lw not connecting.

Hey Birdie,

Yesterday i was downloading slow (0-1kbps) then after i deleted the preference folder(.limewire), i made a new search and a few files were downloading at the speed of 8-11kbps and 2 were downloading at 30-54 kbps. Today when i tried to run lime wire it just cant connect, it starts up goes from poor connection- turbo-Charged then Disconnects straight away, and its still the same till now, anyway i did all the test i was asked to

Magnet mix, i cant download a file from here. Lime wire keeps opening but cant connect.

As for azureus i dont know if its slow or not coz its my first time using it, it ranges from 288 b/s - 15-30kbps sometimes.

My isp is : Tmnet Streamyx

Hey Grandpa,

i did the speed test and this is the results

Description: Filesize Time KBytes Kbits
Download Speed: 1025.73 6.75 155.91 1247.28

and on the RPM meter it reads above 1000RPM by one bar. (At 500 RPM it says DSL cable) but above that there is no spesification.

Hey 6_Pac,

Thank For The Info. btw how do i check my advertised speed?
