lost "shared" file i'm new to limewire, and it seems that the more you share, the greater the success rate you will have with downloading. i had about 15-20 songs downloaded and in my share folder in the library, and (don't ask me why) hit "refresh". the quicktime player files are still on my HD in the Shared folder, and there are copies (and converts to mp3's) in itunes (mac OS 8.5.1), but they are no longer in my library - and thus, i do not have any files to share, nor is downloading anything successfully feasable. how, if i can, do i retrieve the files back to the library? and does sharing affect dowloading success? if not, what does, is it up to the host to connect you? thanks. |
hi g-money. (nice name, i've got a friend with that nickname) -- sharing does not immediately affect downloading success, although some people do block what are called 'freeloaders' - people downloading without sharing anything. hitting 'refresh' in the library just updated the display of the library -- if you had moved the files out of the shared folder and into someplace else, then people would just recieve 'File Not Found' whenever requesting the file. there probably should be a way for limewire to recognize the files are no longer shared and auto-update the library without requiring people to hit refresh. it is very easy to add the files back to your library. just go to tools->preferences (or wherever the preferences are, i don't recall offhand) and add a new shared folder. namely, the one with the files you'd like to share. |
thanks, i'm certain i already tried that, but this time it worked. go firgure. |
