uploads never exceed 2%

Using 2.8.5 Pro on Win2000 with a symmetric 768k DSL and a Linksys router. I've been running the current version of LW for 1.5 years.

Now, when I check the Monitor screen, I never see any uploaders with more than 2% of the file. So I suspect they're getting cut-off.

Also, in the Connections screen, I'm seeing 60-90% Dropped (Incoming) packets on the Ultrapeers I link to. Is this a problem on my end, or on theirs?

Follow-up:
I just bypassed my router by setting my internal IP as the "DMZ host", then deleted one of my UltraPeer connections. The new link is also having 80% Dropped packets. And I used ShieldsUp to confirm that the router was passing all packets -- scary! Meanwhile, I've removed the DMZ setting.

OK, tonight I've got one user at 35% (using LW 2.7.6). But all the other connections are still 0% or 1%. It never used to be like this. Is there something about LW 2.8.x (e.g. new GUESS protocol?) that's incompatible with the bulk of other Gnutella servents?

I re-installed 2.7.13 Pro and I no longer see lots of Dropped I/O (Input probs, actually). I'm also seeing several people at 7% and 8% upload -- I'll wait until tomorrow to see how much better it really is working.

As soon as I switched from 2.8.5 to 2.7.13, a bunch of uploads resumed and at "normal" percent-complete. So, it appears that 2.8.x is not reporting the correct percentage. Apparently, it's only reporting the percent due to the current chunk being uploaded. The exceptions are probably due to clients that aren't using chunks. In any case, I was satisfied that people really were getting complete uploads so I'm now running 2.8.6.

re the Dropped packets, I think that LW 2.8.x is displaying long-term statistics whereas the previous versions only show short-term. So there really is a problem with dropped packets on Gnutella! I've also noticed that the native-Win32 apps (e.g. Bearshare) seem to have a much lower percentage of dropped so maybe it's a Java issue?

This issue is a GUI bug, it's not a bug in the uploader. The upload will perform normally for the remote client although your progress bar will be reset to 0% frequently.

I suggest you continue using 2.8.6 (not 2.8.5, it has a serious bug) if that's the only reason for switching back to 2.7.

Thanks for confirming that it's a bug. I had reached the same conclusion but I'm always worried about the RIAA or MPAA sabotaging the network, e.g. tying-up upload slots.
