I have cable... downloads REALLY slow..why?? I have Roadrunner cable usually clocking about 300-400 kbps. I try to download all sorts of different files but can never seem to get above 20kbps?? That sucks... real bad! It's like having a phone modem again! Don't get me wrong the site is great... is there anyway this can be fixed?? Hope it changes in the future... Please let me know is settings can be adjusted or if something is set wrong.... MCS |

Slow downloads I would like to add/comment on this thread since it is a concern - even when picking a host showing T1 connection, transfer rate is abnormally sllllllllooooooowwwwwwwwww. I haven't seen anything faster than 10-12 Kb/s - depressing, really. Anyone has a clue? |

Also how much bandwidth they devote to uploads its like back when i had napster, people would allow 0 outbound transfers, and it was a real pain in the ***! END BANDWIDTH GREEDINESS!!! |
First of all, if you think getting 15-20 kbps is like having a phone line connection then I'd like to know what kind of phone line you had. A 56k connection will NEVER consistently run at anything over 5 or 6 kbps. And Parkaboy is right, it has alot to do with all these *******s that just want to download and never allow an upload. Well guess what, people like this are just hogging up the bandwidth and if everyone was like this there wouldn't even be a LimeWire. That is why I disable browser users and people who are sharing no files from downloading from me, and I recommend everyone else to do the same. Plus, then it's a fun time to sit and watch the same idiot try to get a file for an hour when he can't connect because he's not sharing anything. Ah, good times! |
"That is why I disable browser users and people who are sharing no files from downloading from me, and I recommend everyone else to do the same." Correct me if i am wrong, but it looks like the 'freeloader' setting only keeps people from connecting as a host--it does not stop them downloading. Without a 'whois' or browse feature how can you tell? |
Speed issues!! I feel your pain man. I too have RoadRunnner cable service. When I download from Microsoft, I get download speeds of like 900K !!! Fast as hell! When I first started using Limewire, I could get speeds of 100-500K, but now...I'm lucky to connect at all. I can pick like 30 songs, and only 1 or 2 will actually connect, and when they do connect, it's like at 5-20K. SUCKS!!! And I know the whole deal about the upload speed of the originator. But that is NOT the issue. I choose people that have T3's. You know how much bandwidth that is?!?!?! A hundred people could be downloading that without any dent in their bandwidth. I'm not sure what is causing the slowdowns, but at this point, I would be willing to use pay services if they guaranteed higher bandwidth and faster downloads. At this point, I've been trying to hunt down FTP sites. (IF anyone knows any good ones for Ambient, and trance dance music, let me know...I have plenty to share to be fair). At least then you can get good speeds. |

I know jerky.... No, most people do not dedicate whole T-3's to music sharing, but..... Usually that kind of traffic that flows on company lines dies down alot after business hours. But thanks for stating the obvious for me! |
