Question Could Not Move To Library Files

Is there no way to recover "could not move to library" files?
I just waited for a bunch of files to download, but when I came home and checked the download status, I've got seven LARGE files I've been waiting patiently to download, they're all marked "Could Not Move To Library". I can see no reason why they wouldn't move, lots of disk space, all that.
Is there NO way to recover these files? Please don't tell me I have to re-find and re-download them all.....
I'd hoped that Limewire would solve my problems.... For some reason Shareaza shuts itself down periodically on my system...
Glad I didn't buy it right away, anyways! I might consider it if someone tells me how to fix this, and what causes it....

The problem was never seriously addressed by LimeWire, so it can't be fixed yet.

If you encounter that error, you can simply move those files manually if they seem complete.

If you are using a Mac you have to kill the download while it's verifying the file and move the incomplete file. On linux and windows the incomplete file *should* remain in your incomplete directory whe it can't be moved to your shared dir, - if it isn't, you have to do the same as on Macs.

thanks for the reply, but I still don't know how to move it. I'm looking in explorer, and it's neither in the shared or incomplete follder. I'm assuming that if it DID show up in incomplete( which it doesn't) I would then move it to the shared folder? And I'm using Windows. ( I have enough problems without Mac). Thanks. Joe

I saw a message in another thread that I found interesting. It said that files that have names with strange characters (such as "/" or ":" or "*"), characters that are illegal in filenames, will cause "Could not move to library" errors.

So this suggests that there are people out there who are naming files with these funny characters. While LimeWire uses a temporary name during the download, when it finishes, it tries to put the file into the Library using the original filename, and it fails when the file contains a bad character.

I would guess that the people supplying files with weird characters are sharing the files from Unix or Mac, because those OS's allow characters that Windows does not permit.

Limewire could probably do something a bit smarter, like trying to remove the invalid characters on systems that do not support them.

Do you think this is the cause of your problem?
