magnet test

I'd like to test some magnet stuff:

Can anybody try to download this link (don't worry the artist allows distribution of this song) and tell me if it works?

Ça fonctionne!!! (it works)
Félicitations!

That's good, - I obviously can't resolve my own host name - or rather LimeWire seems to try to send a Push to myself so the download from the local host fails.

works here

I just get could not download awaiting sources when clicking on the link, even if my buddy list says you're online

trap_jaw April 11th, 2003 10:19 AM

Maybe my LimeWire wasn't running when you tried. - If you want to try again, I'm running LimeWire for the rest of the day.

sebdude April 11th, 2003 10:32 AM

Yep it works now. I only get waiting s for busy but I guess I'm able to connect to you.

Idiot of the East Strikes Again!

Well, this is how it went:

the first attempt started me at position 6 in the queue and dropped into cannot download after about five minutes;

the second attempt froze all the applications running;

after restarting, the third attempt started me at position 16 in the queue and then dropped me into cannot download after about one minute;

all subsequent attempts show immediate cannot download messages.

So, the good news is that we made a connection but the download itself did not follow.

Looks like a good trick in the making.

Good luck with it.

trap_jaw April 11th, 2003 12:30 PM

Yeah, I've noticed your connection, but I had to restart LimeWire a couple of times because of a memory leak I created by mistake when playing with the downloading code.
It's always a problem for people to download from me, because I'm sharing lots of files but I restart LimeWire frequently when playing with the source code.

I have my reputation to consider

Having started off life in this forum as a general scew-up, I can't possibly admit to anything going right but it is good to know that my primitive efforts to be attracted to your magnet were noticed.

Things have been chaotic here today as the upgrade to 10.2.5 has cut me off from some of my Pagemaker files and this is a real pain. Having to scan hard copies back in is an unappealing prospect. Anyway, back to the grindstone.

Good luck with future magetic experiements.

could the d/l resume button in LW be made to retry a "could not download" magnet entry? I gather it doesn't do anything now.

[edit--David, did you try resetting the "open with" for those files in Get Info? Shouldn't have to rescan--the data should still be there if you didn't delete them. Off-topic, so*****]

That is what it actually should do. Somehow this function that would have worked in LimeWire 2.9.5 has been disabled. I haven't investigated the problem, but I will do so in the next few days.

Correction: Resume button does work if the hosts you were downloading from were not firewalled

stief April 18th, 2003 10:21 AM

Just tried again with 2.9.8.2 (in case it added the resume function for magnets)
No go; no resume.

I still have a copy in my shared folder. Could that be a factor?

trap_jaw April 18th, 2003 10:48 AM

While going through the downloading code once again, I finally found out why the resume button won't work. If I find the time I'll write a patch to make it work again.

I'm a little tired of working on LimeWire at the moment. The the next semester starts on tuesday and I want to enjoy my Easter holidays before that.

stief April 18th, 2003 11:09 AM

Thanks, enjoy, and let LW and others worry about the resume patch. Best wishes in your next term. I'd recommend the Booker prize winner--Martel's Life of Pi--as some great reading to get away from gnutella hassles. It's a radical change in modern lit from Steppenwolf kinds of stuff.

David91 April 18th, 2003 01:44 PM

Good luck with the studies

It's always interesting to read your posts. Thanks for taking the time to help us innocents.

Now, Stief, let's not be too hasty on this patch thingy!!!
