It used to mean that there was a character in the filename that would be illegal on your OS. trap_jaw gave LW a fix for that a few versions ago, but there's something new causing it recently. I've seen a lot of those this last week, and can't find a pattern. For now, I just reselect the file in the search pane, click on download until it starts to connect, then select those downloads with the message and click on kill (or clear inactive), and cmd-click to repeat search. It happens in LW 2.9.8 and 2.9.8.2.

The only glimmer of a pattern I can sense is that if LW tries to connect to one of the alternates found in a repeat search (I don't know how to tell which ones), this will trigger the message. The other thing that happens is that the list of incompletes in the Library pane goes blank, and can take up to quite a few clicks to refresh.

Have you been able to see a pattern? I'm on OS 10.2.5.

trastnou1, I think I've found a file we can test with. Try searching for

"Autumn.jpg" (68kb).

I was able to download it twice, but got about a dozen "could not move to library" messages too. Took a while to find one with no copyright--hope this is one.

Anyone else want to give this a try and see what you get?

i tried 26 people to download a song. all say could not move to library and they look as though they download instantly. so why is this all the sudden doing this???? i really can't download anything at all. have they changed their software? is there another program i can use that will work? i like limewire.....if it would only work.

I like Acquisition for OS 10.2*, and Phex has also been recommended. You can also find older versions of Limewire here.

I don't know why these messages are showing recently, but I trust there are some good coders who will find out soon.

Default can't move to library

I'm using the dutch-language version of limewire and I got the same problem.

I already discouvered that the message "can't move file to library" (or whatever the exact english translation may be...), this message only appears downloading filenames that are longer than some caracters. I don't know how much exactly, but files with short names, cán be downloaded.

Further I found out that lw does do sómething, when I changed the maximum permitted simultaneous downloads in the preferences-pane into zero. Now lw does do somthing else, but still not really downloading very much. (maybe because it's zero now....)

My os is 10.1.
Lw version 2.8.6
