Just upgraded...ugh Hi, I just purchased an upgrade from LW Pro 2.8.6 (I think) to 2.9.8. I've gone from having the option to have as many as 12 or 14 connections to the default of 3. Since then my successful files during searches has dropped to less than 10% of what I used to see. My successful downloads has dropped even further. Any suggestions? Should I have saved my money for the second time? I upgraded because I thought things were going to improve. Dray |
More info I am running 2.9.8 on a Windows Machines running XP. The only change from a very productive Limewire experience to my current situation is the upgrade, no other changes... |
Surely someone has a suggestion? Surely someone has a suggestion how I can solve my problem. I've tried reading other posts, but I haven't found anything to fix it yet. Dray |
There is no fix because the behaviour is more or less intended. |
Ouch Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have saved my money. I've been using LW for several years, I guess it's time for a change. Dray |
I guess you could do that. There are many other good p2p applications. |
Connecting w/ Limewire I must say I'm not the expert on this. I *was* a Limewire user, and I thought LW was great (used v2.1.3). LW is all I've ever known, until.... Last week I upgraded to LW v2.9.8 and lost the ability to download completely. I made all the recommended changes shown here at this board -- nothing helped. The only difference was that I had been using a router the past few months in my home, and my downloading ability began to decrease recently with the older version of LW. Coincidence re: using a router? Well, I didn't know ... so I tried Shareza. Shareza worked perfectly fine for me from the get-go, and I must say, it is much ''slicker'' than Limewire IMO. This instant connection via Shareaza tells me that there was nothing wrong with my 'puter settings. Will I go back to LW? Doubt it; too much of hassle to make it work. Just my $0.02 ..... P.S. -- I use Win2000 Prof'l Edition, connect via Comcast cable modem and use a Linksys router. |

Finally, this week after like 2 months of this crap, I decided to try Shareaza and WOW is all I can say. No problems, connecting, the interface is really slick and I have had nothing but good things to say so far. Limewire just "may" have lost a loyal user. I will check on them from time to time, but for any serious needs, I will more than likely stay with Shareaza and hopefully they will not start slowly letting me down as Limewire has. |

Go, go with god, but go. |
Not a veteran like you guys, but . . . . I signed on with Version 2.8.6, then upgraded to 2.9.8, and now am up to 3. something. The results have gotten BETTER AND BETTER, especially when they went to the 3.0 Series. I would invite you lads back to try the newer version -- I have had no problems, far greater search ability, less "waiting for sources" -- although I admit I haven't tried Shareaza. LW is all I have known and it's been FANTASTIC for me -- doubt I would change and run the risk of all the spyware garbage, which is NOT CONTAINED in Limewire Pro (believe me, I CHECKED -- especially after trying the free version nightmare). This is a good outfit and they have been supportive -- but all the best to you if you're happier with something else. |
