File Corruption

When I download a file it usually says it has detected a file corrution. I looked on the website and it says to run the installer again. But this is for the corrupt installer. how do I fix this problem

Corruption

It is a fact of life that, as millions of packets of data are being transported across the network, some will be corrupted. It is also a fact of life that some record companies, tired of unlawful downloads, are putting spoof files on the net to make life difficult for those who wish to break the law. There are two morals to this story.

For the benefit of others, please remove any corrupt files from your own Shared folder immediately. That way, the corrupt files will not be spread any further through the system and provoke this form of annoyed question from users downstream from you.

And if you want perfect files everytime, spend your money to acquire copyright protect materials legally.

For non-copyright protected files, you just keep on downloading new copies until you get one that meets your discriminating standards.

hi ted--couple of ideas--post your specs (platform/versions) to attract better answers. In the meantime, since it's hard to say what will work on your set-up--I rarely find corrupt mpg's any more--I usually go for a completely new install (including getting rid of old incompletes and prefs) when things go wrong; reinstalling java can sometimes help too.

File Corrupted on OSX 10.4.2

Do you have to download Java to make limewire work? I can do MP3 and some AVIs

stief May 15th, 2003 11:32 PM

OS 10.2.4 or ? (I'm on OS 10.2.6 with LW 2.9.10)
Java is included in OSX. Run software update in your system prefs to get all the updates, including the updated java. Even though LW hasn't switched to using the newer java, the Mac OS update will still refresh the older java stuff too.

If you're not using the OSX Software Update, here's a link to the java download page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120197

I just tried d/l a few mpg's--so far no corruption. Anyway, some good files can trigger corrupt messages if the host machine hasn't refreshed a hash--try ignoring the message and continuing the download, but as david said, do test the file before sharing it with others.
