PeerWeb & Limewire

Does anyone here know how to download files from peerweb.org through Limewire? When I tried clicking download links, it opened Limewire, but nothing happened. I'm running OS 10.2.6 and using Limewire Pro 2.9.0.

Peerweb.org uses a special type of magnet links that will only work with Shareaza.

But they're the same format as the ones on bitzi (sorry about the double post) :p

oh i think i know why: limewire doesn't support urn magnets only sha1 ones, and raza outputs urn magnets

not quite. The gnutella vendors agreed upon a standard hash to use for URNs and that was SHA-1. Shareaza however wanted to use bitprint URNs, so they started using different magnet links.

Both of them are URNs. Shareaza just uses an additional TigerTree hash that LimeWire does not support in magnets.

Besides, LimeWire does not support query by hash anymore, so even if LimeWire read Shareaza's bitprint urns (which it could do easily) it wouldn't be able to search for the files by urn.

Queries by urn were banned because they were causing to much traffic. Agressive servents such as XoloX, Phex or Mutella were sending requeries far too often (Mutella was sending a requery every 60 seconds for each file it was downloading).

well since Kazaa, ed2k, and G2 all query by hash and not by filename, it can't be THAT bad. . . especialy for downloading from verified sites. (but requering every 60 seconds IS outragous)

well at least limewire supports alt-sources :-)

LimeWire will implement a DHT (distributed hash table) in the not too distant future. DHTs are far more efficient than queries by hash. So long LimeWire decided to ban queries by hash to increase the search horizon for keyword searches by an order of magnitude in return.

and bearshare, xolox, and MLdonkey

BearShare and Xolox simply extract the sha-1 hash from the urn (bitprints are simple concatenations of sha-1 and tigertree hashes), that is trivial of course. But since it won't work anyway why bother to support it?
