Download stops shortly before done

I just downloaded the free version of LimeWire and tried to download one song two times. I have a 56k connection and the first attempt was a download from someone with Cable connection. The second time I tried from a modem connection--both times just before the download completed it stopped and I got a message that said "cannot download..."

I'm glad I didn't pay anything for this software! It took me almost an hour for the first one and quite some time for the second one and it didn't complete. Does anyone out there know what is happening? I could have bought the CD in a store quicker than that!

Peerless, I used to use Kazaa and had to wait long for downloads and sometimes they ended in mid download, but these were just about done literally and then---boom!

How does someone browse my files? I just came on tonight.

I know my 56k connection sucks! I will join the 21st century soon! Thanks for the response.

Thanks again Peerless. I went back on and had previously downloaded 97% of the file and miraculously it continued from that point and it only took a few minutes and the download was completed successfully!

Steve,

Anytime a file stops downloading do a new search for the file. Often Limewire will re-establish the route to the file and resume the download. also, another host may have signed on with the identical file.

During a download that is lengthy you can right click your search term and select "repeat search". This will reduce the possibility that your routing to the file will get lost.

Your 56K connection hurts you because the longer time required to download a given file increases the chance that the routing to the file can be lost and / or the host shuts down.

Thanks Norm. I know the 56k connection is the pits and I will get into the 21st century soon!
