Download Resume Problem, Help Please!!!

Yesterday I'm downloading a file of size 42 Mb. When I was 92% (38 Mb) it was too late and I shut down the MAC. When today I start my limewire again...

¡¡ SURPRISE !!

The file don't appear in the download file. The incomplete file are in the incomplete folder.

How I could resume this file and it appear again in my download window??

Help please

As I recall the resumse button is still broken, has been for quite a few major versions.

stief June 24th, 2003 07:31 AM

Click on the file in the Library pane and hit the resume button--it should still work. Blackbird is right--the resume button in the downloads pane was/is the one disabled.

Or--just start a new search, and if you download the same file, it should jump back to the proper % and continue.

soulless June 24th, 2003 10:29 AM

Thank both,

I do these stief but the download appear with 0% :(

stief June 24th, 2003 10:54 AM

someone else noted that problem, and the developers are aware of that report.
I'll see if I can make it happen too.
The resume button for the incomplete file in the library pane works to get the file into the downloads pane, but I'll need to find an incomplete file bigger than 0k to test more.

You seeing this too blackbird?

THe Problem is bizare. Of 15 files in my incomplete folder that I resumed, all of them went into the downloads pane. Of these 15, all went into an awaiting sources messages, with two of them (the most recent ones) climbing up to their correct percentages although not downloading (both well over 50% complete for the record).

After searching for a couple minutes, 7 of the 13 began downloading, but at zero. Whilst the ones who had climbed to the correct percentages did not resume when I searched for the files.

So I conclude from my limited testing that a small percentage of files, for whatever reason, resume at the correct percentages and those that resume downloading after a search do NOT resume at the correct percentages.

stief June 24th, 2003 06:47 PM

I had to download almost 100 megs before I could get a partially downloaded file to go into "awaiting" mode. Tried larger, smaller, swarmed, and single host files. Damn but the new version is so much better at downloading! Never had this problem with earlier versions :D

Killed the partial, resumed it from the inc. folder, and it showed up with the correct % in the downloads list as "awaitng . . ."
Did a repeat search and it resumed and finished.

Inconclusive here, I'd say.

I just remembered--something like this used to happen just before LW started displaying vendors in the Searches and Downloads. 2.8.*?

Once vendors could be displayed, I noted older LW's (~2.3?) or others new to swarming might overwrite the file and start it from scratch. Posters would ask to turn swarming off to avoid this. Major irritation!

Perhaps an older vendor is involved here too?

I'll just go now and gum my mashed potatoes sonny.

Hmm...consider my previous test invalid. I just found a problem with me specifically. I resumed files I tried dliing more than 7 days ago. I assumed that, since my prefs are to delete after 7 days, the files would be out of my incomplete folder, but they weren't, even though it said they were partially dled. So it could be that those files weren't there and that their resumption of dl had to start at zero b/c the incomplete dls had been deleted.

It doesn't help the problem, sorry, but it explains what happened during my tests at least.

incomplete resumes at 0% instead of 76%

I downloaded a 219Mb file over many days; last night I reached 162 Mb (76%) but this morning, when I resumed, I saw with horror that it was starting from 0%. Now, my incomplete file is still in the Incomplete folder, its size is really 162 Mb; it shows in the Incomplete panel of LW with its right size. When I checked the forum, Blackbird's post reminded me of the stupid preference setting of deleting incompletes after 7 days. Do you think that is the problem? Or that preference only means that it deletes incompletes that haven't resumed in the last 7 days?

barbas July 3rd, 2003 03:25 AM

about previous post...

Sorry forgot to mention: I'm running LW basic 3.0.1 on MacOS 9.2.2

stief July 3rd, 2003 04:36 AM

I thinks it's 7 days of inactivity.
I finally saw the 0% resume problem.
Following a crash, my incompletes did not resume on startup, even after trying all the tricks. This happened a couple times using LW3.2.0j173 on Mac 10.2.6.

I'm guessing the downloads.dat file in the incomplete folder became corrupted.

Did you have a crash or get a pop-up error message in your session before the incomplete wouldn't resume?

barbas July 3rd, 2003 05:01 AM

Exactly. Everything was working fine (tens of resumes of the same file every day) and suddenly after a crash, the problem started. I have just updated to LW 3.2 but nothing changed. Any chance to recover the incomplete file?

stief July 3rd, 2003 05:43 AM

Ah! Not that I know. sberlin knows a lot about partial files (see here ).
I'll see if I can get more info on this.

barbas July 3rd, 2003 05:58 AM

I'll be eternally grateful if you or anybody can save the thousands of hours I spent dlding! Without mentioning the money spent on phone bill!

stief July 3rd, 2003 04:57 PM

sberlin just announced a patch about backing up the downloads.dat file.

I tested the .DAT file. When the list of downloading files goes away, the DAT file is reset to blank. Tried saving copy of .DAT file when DL list is in good shape, then copied the save version back after the list was cleared, but the restored .DAT file was ignored. DL list was still blank.

This is a really bad problem for those w/o a high speed connection.

i seem to have a similar problem to all the people here but i'm a little computer illiterate so i'm kind of confused...i have been using limewire since like version 1.6 and i always get the new upgrades but i have never had this problem untill i upgraded to version 3.2.1...if i shutdown limewire and my computer as well(running windows ME), the next time i start up up my comp and LW, the downloads that were in progress do not auto-resume as they're supposed to...and to make it all worse, when i resume them from my incomplete folder, the progress bar in the download pane reads 0% even though i might have 40% of the file actually downloaded...i have a dial up connection and as you can imagine THIS SUCKS!!!! i love limewire but this problems sucks really hard!!! i hope someone fixes this thing real soon...bye

sberlin July 8th, 2003 08:32 PM

Upgrade to 3.2.2 (the current download link). There was a small problem with 3.2.1 that would corrupt certain download data.

Sovereign July 10th, 2003 12:50 PM

alright , much better, thanks for the heads up...

holgrim July 22nd, 2003 09:42 AM

same thing happened to me...

I'm using LimeWire 3.2.3 with Mac OS X 10.2.6. My incomplete d'loads were gone after quitting and re-launching -- there wasn't even a crash involved.

After trying the 'resume' button all downloads started from zero, although the incomplete files still show their old sizes in the finder.

Is there any way to restore the 'downloads.dat' file from the file information?

Thanks for help.

wharfrat July 23rd, 2003 09:06 AM

Similar prob - Nothing in downloads list when I start again.

This has happened to me a few times. I'm using 3.2.3 pro, Mac OS 9.2, and it happened today.
Last time I quit, I had several files listed in the "Downloads."
When I started Limewire today, there was nothing there at all.
I have a lot of files in my Incomplete folder.
I have my prefs set to keep incompletes 28 days.

Any suggestions?

I tried replacing the downloads.dat with the downloads.bak but no change.

thanks

Great stuff I got some more tracks last night. Just thought of something though. Looking at files shared. They seem to decrease. Could this be because, when putting them into one of my desktop folders, I delete part of the name to fit them in neatly; like removing mp3 I mean? I just thought, well I know absolutely nothing technically,(I dont even know if this is the same part of the forum I posted to last time,) but maybe trying to extract them from my folder they are not recognised as music files?!

trap_jaw4 July 31st, 2003 11:17 AM

LimeWire will only share files with certain extensions. If you delete the extensions altogether, LimeWire will not share the files.
