Question about "force IP" Question; When selecting "force IP", how does LimeWire work out the Internet-facing address of the local network ? I was kindof expecting to have to enter the relevamt IP, but the Options->advanced->Firewalls page only has a checkbox for "force IP" and a box in which to enter the port which is delegated to the box running limewire. Running 3.6.0 Pro beta, but posting here as I'm reasonably sure the beta hasn't altered how 'force IP' works. Any info much appreciated. |
I've been assuming that LW is able to detect your IP, and then force it...as far as I know this deals with 2 issues...2 users being firewalled, and networks...I know that on Direct Connect, two users that are passive cannot connect...and this is basically the two users both being behind firewalls...it is dealt with by manually entering in one's IP address, and forcing it...by doing this, a firewalled user can now connect to any other user, barring of course issues like hacked clients and such.. I know that I have had no problems running LW in the force IP mode, and perhaps am having a better time at making connections.. |

Salut Topbanana, when you force IP, LW uses the IP you can see in the tooltip in the connection tab under the header "Remote-IP". |
