Downloads SLOOOOOOOOOW HELP!!! I am just curious as to why my downloads are soooo slow? I am running on dsl and ive called my isp they said my speeds are great. But Im wondering because, I am also using norton internet securities 2003 and Im behind a firewall, if there is some settings I need to change or anything. But I know that I should be able to download faster than 2kps when I was using kazza I was getting at least 20. Thank you for helping in advance :o) |
I also forgot to mention i am running windows xp with a pentium4 1.6 and 512mb of ram. :) |
well it said that im downloading at 354 kbps and uploading at 165 kpbs, so now ugh, i have no idea LOL. at least i know its not me lol. thanks for the help, its much appreciated!!!!!!! muuuaaaaazzzzzz Crystal |
if Behind a firewall: open the port 6346 and/or Behind a router: open and forward port 6346 to your computer (ie 192.168.1.100) and in preferences of LW -advanced-force ip- check the option and select the 6346 port. Bonne chance |
Alright then, I didnt know about the firewall ports, I am actually running Norton Internet Security, so any help you can offer in opening up the required ports would be greatly appreciated. Also I didnt know that downloading at 354kbps for limewire is really only 43 Kb but even still that is way better than the ole 2 or 3 Kb Ive been getting from limewire LOL. Thank you so much for your help though and any advice on configuring my firewall is so appreciated!!!!!! Thank You! |
salut, 354kilobits per second is maximum 44kilobytes per second in LW. For your firewall, I know nobody with that firewall but you should check in the user manual for opening ports at http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/nis/ select you version, click continue and you should be able to download a manual in the downloads section. Bonne chance |
Hey all. I just got a question about my speed connection. I got a 56k (peice o' ****) connection, and am only recieving 4k max on my downloads. Im dont execpt the 43 that brat got but on other p2p's (KaZaA) i was getting about 10-13 (internet speed booster) on a download (if one was only going). Also... a little off subject what does it mean what it says "You are a sheilded leaf node in a ultrareeper so ur not gonna get very many hits on searchs" (paraphrase) and how do i fix it. THX - El Twisted soy el rey |
ok.. but wot does being a sheilded leaf node MEAN? why are my dl so slow? |
Your downloads aren't "slow". That's what you get with 56k. 56k/s = 56000bit/s 1byte = 8bit => 56000bit/8bit = 7000byte/s or 7kbyte/s That is the max theoretical speed achieved under laboratory conditions (whatever your internet speed booster said: it is wrong). In practice you get 48000bit/s or 6kbyte/s connections. Therefrom you must subtract the protocol overhead of TCP/IP and Gnutella. What remains is your actual download speed rate (maybe max 5k/s - 5.5k/s). So 4k/s is quite OK... |
Then how did my connection achieve speeds such as 13kb/s or up to 20kb/s on kazaa or other downloads from a website. |
rkapsi has explained the difference between bits and bytes, but you could go here for more explanations and test your actual speeds. http://www.broadbandreports.com/stest A shielded leaf is good--this means your connection is not being swamped with irrelevant queries (but it also means you don't get to see what others are searching for). Your ultrapeers are taking the bandwidth hit so you don't have to. |
