Uploading files - Size restrictions? Some files stay red? - MacOS9 user

Would appreciate any and all info on this:
have a bunch of mov and mpg files I put in my shared file so Limeusers can download them. All seems to be going well but have this question.
I notice when I add files to my share folder they start by being red for a period of time, then they start after a time and turn black then start being downloaded. But when I added a large mov file (about 300 megs) my list of shared files went red below this file and including it. Do I have to have this file up for a long time (many hours) for it to start becoming shared? Does it have to do with how big it is? Why do the 3 files listed above it all remain shared as soon as I log in? Is there a limit to how big the files I share can be? Does that mean I have to keep trying to log in until they all show up?
THANKS FOR ANY HELP

What happens is this:

When anything is added to Limewire it is in red and Limewire scans it. Simple as that. Once the scan is complete, it is added to your library (gets out of red to black) and is available to download.

Many factors can slow the scan down:
The overall speed of your system
The amount of processor % others apps are taking
The amount of RAM you allocate to Limewire
The size of the file in question.

Once Limewire does its initial scan as something is added, it never needs to do such a precise scan again, and will never automatically do so. Just be paitient and wait for the scan to finish. It seems as if you have a large file, so it will most likely take some time.

thanks! one more question...

thanks very much! all seems to make sense. One other question, how literal is the upload monitoring? for example, I've watched some people download files and it would appear they give up way before reaching 100% but it shows up as a completed download in the x/y column. Are some of the files going through faster than indicated - are some files listed as fully downloaded when only part of it was downloaded. Just curious? I'd like to believe all these people are completely downloading my files but it just seems unlikely., So if it's listed in the x/y column as x, that means someone definitely downloaded that file? (as opposed to y which lists attempts or aborted downloads I believe) THANKS

Answer to your Question

I produced a video called understanding limewire pro where I think that I cover several aspects of LimeWires operation. You can do a search in limewire for the keyword CBT and select the file from the list.

Otherwise to get some good information on your upload performance do the following in limewire.

Tools-->Statistics--[Enable advance statistics]-->Uploads
-->General

from this tab you can read the following statistics:

Attempted = self evident
Completed responses = partial files [hope this is correct]
Interrupted = user stopped or connection lost etc.
Stalled = download activity timed out
Completed File Transfers= [this is what your looking for]

I think it signifies the person has downloaded the entire file and they received the download completed message.

Hope this helps.
