downloads disapeared from list & unable to resume

limewire 3.5.8 | mac os x 10.2.6

for no apparent reason, the downloads list is now empty - there was a whole load in there.

all the semi-downloaded files are still on my drive.

i've tried this quite a few times - searched for one of the downloads that was in the downloads list, then clicked download to re-enter it into the downloads list.

none of the attempts have successfully indicated that they are resuming - the bar is starting off on 0% again even though the largish file is the one that's being added to

? ah! :) how can i get it to resume from where it had got to? why did it decide to get rid of all my downloads from the list?

any help much appreciated

Use the Resume button on the Library Pane to make sure you are resuming the correct file from the Incomplete folder.

no unfortunatly that doesn't help, but thanks for the suggestion.

it's quite odd. i have searched again for some the files that dissappeared from limewires download list, and clicked download. when they start dowloading they start on 0% even though i had maybe 50% -- but this is the strange thing: the partially downloaded file in question on my hard drive is being modified - the date/time modified is now and keep getting updated -- *but* the file size of the partially downloaded file doesn't change - it's static. -- it's like it's redownloading and rewriting the data that it's already got maybe.

i've got about 2GB of partially downloaded files :/ there must be a way to resume? got a horrable feeling that there isn't.

Try with LW 3.8.5 and OS 10.2.8.

2GB of incompletes might be a bit much--have you considered cleaning out your incomplete folder?

Yes, some files can get stuck redownloading chunks (the developers are looking into it). The info on what chunk is downloaded is stored in the downloads.dat file in the incomplete folder, and backed up in the downloads.bak

Lose or corrupt either of those files and yes, you'll have to start again.

There is also a setting in prefs for the number of days to keep incompletes.

yup, thanks again for your suggestion but upgrading didn't make any difference :/

since all the downloads dissapeared from the dl list, none of the partially downloaded files at that time seem resumable from where they had got to.

looks like my 2gb of partially (loads neary there :/) dl'ed files are useless. what a waste of dl time. that's life.

IT'S DONE IT AGAIN! ARGGG! i don't believe it.

the download list has emtied itself again. if that was it, it wouldn't be so bad. but also all the (recent/new to this version of limewire) partial downloads are now un-resumeable - that is whatever percentage i had is not recognised by limewire. i can start downloading the file again, having searched for it again, but none of the partial files will pick up from where they'd got to -- since it emptied the dl list again that is.

what preceded the dl list emptying was me quiting limewire. when i quit all the dl's were there in the dl list. i then went off line (dial up connection). then a few minutes later went back online, started limewire and there was teh empty dl list and unresemable file problem.

very, very annoying :(

how can i stop this happening?

and just to make clear - this is with the latest version of limewire (3.8.5 for mac os x) and all the downloads in question were recent - that is made with this version of limewire.

On the Acquisition forums, something like this is called the lost downloads bug and it's been occuring for a long time there. Have you ever installed Acquisition?
I'd thought it was a Cocoa bug since it rarely shows up with LimeWire , but maybe you've reproduced the conditions to show it has something to do with the way Java works on OSX.

Any chance you can reproduce it and keep the Console logs? Lots of users wold be really glad if it turns out you can find something useful about what makes this bug stink.

Sorry I can't help more--much more info is needed to find the conditions that make it happen.

> Have you ever installed Acquisition?
not that i'm aware of.

> Any chance you can reproduce it and keep the Console logs?
i don't know how to - it just happens within usual use. even if i could make it i don't think i would because i don't want it to happen -- it wastes an awful lot of download time and effort. but if it does i will make a copy of the console output.

> Sorry I can't help more
:) that's ok -- thanks for your input

well i'm still hoping for some way to get limewire to resume these, at the moment, unresumable files??! :) if anyone has any idea...? :)

(that's someway to get limewire to resume dling partially downloaded files that at the moment limewire fails pick up from where it had got to -- it starts at 0% again)

thanks.

this is really pissing me off now.

all downloads in limewire's download list vanished again AND ALL SEMI DOWNLOADED FILES UNRESUMEABLE.

totally and utterly pissing me off.

i've found out kind of a way of dealing with this, in case anyone else suffers from this problem. it doesn't tackle the already unresumeable files, but it is a way of avoiding, or at least getter round the problem:

keep manually duplicating the "downloads.dat" file in your downloads folder in the finder at useful moments (like after something completes or after you add a file to the dl list) and if and when the problem strikes, delete the now corrupt downloads.dat file and rename your last duplicated back to "downloads.dat" and the download list, so therfore the resumability of your partially downloaded files, is rescued.

still can't resume previous partial downloads that happend before i started doing the above though :(
