Incredibly Slow

Newbie here with a question.....is Limewire recently slowed-down (on downloads ) because of „Under-Construction“ difficulties? My downloads are incredably slow, regardless of source and always „waiting on other sources“. I thought it was supposedly „turbo-speed“? I’m running WIN 2K, DSL, 128 mb ram. Any takers, please?

Correction: it says turbocharged which doesn't necessarily mean turbo-speed (I can reach my max dld speed though). Maybe your ISP has started controlling p2p traffic. Call them and ask them about it.

Same problem

I recently went from Mac OS 10.2.8 to 10.3.4 and now my download speed is very, very slow. Sometimes it goes as low as 4 KB/s and the highest I've seen it go was in the 30s. I have a powermac G4 256 mhz and use a comcast cable modem running LW 4.0.7. Any suggestions?

In this case, more important than telling was what modem you have is telling us the actuall connection speed you're paying for.

Yes, we should really, shouldn’t we?(learn to configure I mean) o.k., I did what I take to be a connectivity test on lw port and browser page ... http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ comes up with „Your test page was a success“. I hope I’m right, I’m not an expert, but doesn’t this mean that port is open? I also have „received incoming true“. Tried alternate ports, a suggestion from moderator Ursula.....I’m almost despairing at this stage but my download speed is just a little faster.
Could I ask if you yourself are acheiving satisfactory download speeds? The forum has quite a lot of complaits about speed of downloads...are we all wrongly configured?
Finally I would like somebody to confirm that Gnutella IS currently a faster p2p sytem than Kazaa. In conclusion thanks all for your help and patience....we’ll get there! Have a nice one!

Well, it depends on what you consider by wrongly configured.
Limewire's default configuration is set possibly for 56k modem users as you can't expect from everyone to pay for the more costly broadband connections.
Wether I'm right or wrong, if you kept your default configurations/preferences/options/whatever you wanna call it and you are on a broadband connection, then you're most probably not taking full advantage of your bandwidth.
Go to the Limewire: Open discussion forum and check the sticky about optimal performance (if you haven't already).

Yippee! I now have speeds up to 70k. Isn't life wonderful!
