Followed all suggestions, still unable to share files Hi all, I was hoping one of you fine folks can point me in the direction of what I must be missing. I was running LimeWire 408 on XP Pro with great success, pointing the shared & saved files to a folder on another system on my local network. All was well. Then, I had to reformat my system. I reinstalled the same version of LimeWire. I can search and download, but I am sharing 0 files, should be about 2000. I pointed LimeWire toward the shared/saved folders on the same system on my local network, as before. LimeWire shows it is directed toward the correct folders, but does not recognize there are files inside, with the exception of the Incompleted folder (which is in the same location as the saved/shared files). If I go to the library tab, the folders appear to be empty, though they are packed with great tunes. I have read through tons of posts. I've deleted the LimeWire preferences folder - no luck. I found that the LimeWire default Shared folder was missing, so added it (even though I don't use it) - no luck. I've tried pointing to the correct folders via both the Library tab & the Options-Tools route - no luck. I've reinstalled, rebooted and re-read posts. I do not have SP2 installed, so no firewall issues. My network is the same as before, so I must be missing something in LimeWire. This worked great before I reinstalled and all my parameters look the same. Any input will be much appreciated. Christine |
I presume you did press the Apply button after you added the new shared folder(s). Sounds like a basic question/point, but it's easy to forget. Also, when you go back to the Library window to press the Refresh button. Keeping in mind if you're sharing a lot of files, LW can take a few mins to account for these new items. I'd suggest you do it one at a time. Go to the Tools-Options & Sharing & add a folder, press Apply & ok. Then go back to the Lib window & refresh it. See how it goes. Oh also, don't forget that if your shared folders are several levels down, you'll need to click them open in the Lib window until u reach the bottom level & click onto that one before the files will appear to the right of it. Since you're on pc which has the option of a mouse click that can 'unshare' folders. Make sure this has not played a part. I'm not a windows person so I don't know about that. (On a mac we only have one button.) |
I got it....thanks! Thanks so much for the reply. I'm rather embarrassed to admit wha the problem was! When I typed the address in options-tools to point to the network folders for sharing/saving, I managed to eliminate the beginning slashes. So, LimeWire smartly went and created a series of folders with the same names on my C drive. Of course they were empty. Blushing over here! Thanks much! |
Easy mistake to make. At least you were clever enough to discover what the issue was & rectify it. Well done! |
