Try getting the latest Java from www.java.com

murasame October 9th, 2004 04:25 AM

Ow, ow, what kinda OS are you using (if it's XP, which service pack are you using?)
And I deleted you other thread: one thread about the same subject is more than enough. Read the rules.

bhsballa327 October 9th, 2004 10:16 AM

murasame October 10th, 2004 05:07 AM

FYI, this is the Gnutella forums: the forums that cover clients that connect to the Gnutella network.
Plus, we are not paid bythe LW people. We are volunteers.
Now, I'm not gonna give you a list of service packs. Are you using Service pack 2?

bhsballa327 October 10th, 2004 04:34 PM

no..service pack 1

murasame October 11th, 2004 08:19 AM

Let's take it from the top then:
a)Do you have the latest Java?
b)Are you using XP's firewall?
c)If you are, have you set it so that it allows LW to connect (I don't think that that's the prob, but...)?
d)Which version of LW are you using?

Yes
No
4.0.8

bhsballa327 October 11th, 2004 02:09 PM

another thing..could u leave ur screen name so i can just instant message u instead of waiting for answers

murasame October 12th, 2004 10:07 AM

It's better if you just waited for answers as someone else might pop in the thread and try and help.
Ok, did you try the delete-the-preferences trick?
If you didn't, then try it.

delete the proferences?

Lord of the Rings October 12th, 2004 02:36 PM

Delete the preferences: search for preferences. Once you find them, delete them. Or if you'e not sure, search 'preferences' on this forum (http://www.gnutellaforums.com/search.php)

It's normal for files to be initially queued after LW opens. Depending upon how many files you have attempting to dwnld it may take quite a while before all the queued files have had a proper chance at connecting. If they can't connect they will show 'Need more Sources.'

If you've forced 'resume' any files, this may cause issues if you've selected 'too many' to resume. The reason is b/c these files will continually send out searches for sources every # no. of mins & eventually give up trying. If you have many of these resumed files, they will put great stress upon you connection quality by stealing your upld bandwidth & will compete with normally selected 'queued' files for time to find sources & connect; ie: it would mean you'll have queud files for a much, much, much greater amount of time. Forced resumed files can be identified by Status of 'Waiting #s for Sources' ends up as 'Awaiting Sources' (instead of Need more Sources'.)

I've found too many people choose the force resume option without realising it's side effects. But then this might not apply to you. Tell us if it does. See the tell-tale signs above to identify if it does apply to you.

Lord of the Rings October 12th, 2004 02:40 PM

These points might not hurt either (optimising LW): http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...5&pagenumber=1

Ive tried force resume...never works..wont change from queued...just always stays queued...and i still dont understand what u mean by delete the preferences...there is no preferences in LW...just options..and i cant delete them..my connection to LW is great..and ive never had this problem b4..just one day i couldnt dl...thank you for ur help..but...there is nuthin i can think of...just keep tryin..it should be an easy answer..things just dont always go into waiting mode for nothing.

Perhaps you should realize that the host is busy and actually there is no download possible. Wait or choose an other source.

Same problem

All right, I understand now that it does not depend on your connection speed. I once had dial up when this problem started. Just yesterday I switched from dial-up to 112 kbps high-speed internet. All of them, no matter what type of file, became queued.

I made sure that the firewall was letting LimeWire (free version) through.

I have Windows XP service pack 2.

I have the latest update, LimeWire, 4 0.8. I've even totally uninstalled LimeWire and reinstalled this later version.

I tried cleaning and defragmenting my computer to make it faster.

I've tried Kazaa just to see if I could download on it. And I was able. Deleted it cause of all of the junk that comes with it.

Tried a program called WinMX, also for downloading music. It could also download music. No queques. But it's very slow.

LimeWire is more dependable than Kazaa or WinMX, though.

I didn't, though, know that Java was needed for this program. I've got the latest Java, anyhow. Are you sure Java could be a problem? What else could there be?

I've let LimeWire run to "give it time" to connect.

Still nothing.

How much time? Sometimes you have to wait for several hours...

This here is called P2P not downloading from fast servers. You are downloding from people like you and me. The people who offer the files have limited resources as you have.

A lesson in math. An average DSL user have a download speed of 96KB and a upload speed of 16KB. These users are sharing the most. Everybody wants to download with his max speed, some are able to download very fast now we count , if one user would be able to download with max speed this means that 5 others get nothing. You should also realize that not everybody is sharing. These are the reasons why you are waiting for a download slot not because you have technical problems.

To make it short you can have the best computer, the fastest line, the best software, you can defrag it every day but this will not help you. P2P is not so easy...

i need help..not quotes as patience is a virtue...i think patience doesn't extend for 2 weeks to dl 1 song..thats horrible...its been queued the whole...its not my comp..its been fine the whole time..now i cant dl for sum reason..has limewire become more popular?..i guess it could be most hosts dling what i am as well...but really..they cant support enough t where it can atleast tell me how far back in line i am?...id rather see that then queued all the time.

murasame October 13th, 2004 02:52 PM

No, no, how much time has Rage left LW open in order to see if it would eventually connect.
There are stickies about what "deleting the preferences" means: take the time to read them before you post something (and the rules too, in case you missed them).
Well, to save you some time, here's the link to said sticky: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...threadid=22359
Reading only the first post is good, but taking the time to go through the entire thread might be beneficial because some users might have found alternatives to the original solution and posted them there.

SAME PROBLEM

hi, im having the exact same problem- did you ever find anything to make the songs stop being in "queue" and start downloading?

You should wait at least a few minutes before you say it wonīt work. I tried to explain that you arenīt downloading from BIG FAST SERVERS which have dozens of frees slots, you download from people like you and me with LIMITED RESSOURCES.

Deleting Preferences

Thanks to those who helped me out. Deleting the preferences did work. I hope those in the future that get this problem will try this method. Everything download's fine. I went to C:/documents and settings/[my username]/.limewire. I deleted the .limewire and as soon as I did, the limewire set up popped up. I just finished filling that out and like magic, everything was ok again. Say no to queques! Heh..

Insulting a mod is very stupid.

Thanks for bringing the queued downloads problem to our attention. We'll make sure that LimeWire doesn't allow all downloads to always be queued, regardless of the user's preference.

murasame October 15th, 2004 09:15 AM

Yes yes. I agree that if you have a question, you ask. AFTER you read the rules (at least) and after you've made the effort of looking around yourself for an answer first. I mean, how will it hurt you? (and don't give me the "I'm too busy" stuff. Using the search function doesn't take more that 1 min tops)
