downloads.dat file

Does anyone know if you can rebuild the downloads.dat file in the incomplete directory. I was aong way through some large downloads when something went wrong and the file got nuked. The backup file was also screwed. Any ideas???????????

hi. im downloading large files, all of them were almost complete then suddenly i cant resume all of them. what i did was i've moved all the files inside the Incomplete folder to a different folder for safety because i uninstalled limewire then installed it again.then i moved back the files to the Incomplete again so that i can resume my downloads but i doesnt resume. the progress bar display 0%(instead of 80% for example).i deleted download.dat & download.bak.& i think that's the mistake i made. what should i do to resume my downloads(many of them were 78% already, but when i resume them it returns to 0%,the files are still the same,i can preview them.). thanks so much!!!!

sorry--once the downloads.dat and .bak for those files are gone, you have to start from scratch.:( You can preview the portions, but LW cannot currently figure out which bits are missing without using the dat and bak files.

you can save incomplete folders, but have to save the .dat and bak with them (you could have many incomplete folders, each with its own dat and bak files. Before starting LW, just place the inc folder you want in the primary location, and that's th one that will resume when starting LW).

However, there has been some talk about being able to recover incompletes through the "hash map," IIRC, but I guess this is still quite a technical challenge that's probably not worth the overall effort.

So, as others said earlier, just start from scratch: it's probably the easiest way. All that wasted bandwidth! sigh ;)
