Question unwanted downloads...virus?

I am not the most computer savy person so please bare with me. While using Limewire, I have noticed that files that I did not select to download will appear in the downloading window and will ultimately be saved in my shared folder. Also, when leaving Limewire unattended, the same thing occurs. I previously left a post and read about a worm program that might have been the cause. Because of this, and some adware and slow boot, I restored my system. I then downloaded Limeware again and the problem was gone for a while. However, after downloading some additional files, the problem started again.

Could I have downloaded another worm/virus/trojan horse? Is this how a virus works or am I just off my rocker? This is concerning as many of these files are porn files that I do not want on my system. I am the only user of the computer, so it is not my kid...that much I at least know...Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Alaska

That is the behavior of some virii/worms. I came accross the same thing in my more computer ignorant days. Do you have an anti virus? Every window$ user needs to have an anti virus and a firewall. So, my suggestion to you is to get an AV if you do not already have one and do a virus scan. NEVER download an XML file from a P2P network, I try to stay away from executibles all together. Tell me what you come up with. Good luck.

Thumbs up Unwanted downloads

Thanks for the advice guys!!! I deleted all of my shared files and downloaded a file shredder off of CNET.com. Based on what I have seen thus far, the problem seems to be taken care of. Also, I have changed by AV and hopefully this will not happen again.

Thanks again,
Alaska

Depending upon what you're dwnlding, it might also be worth setting up filters for LW. Highly recommended is to go to LW's menu Tools-Options & Filters & keyword & type in .exe This will help reduce many of those unwanted files you get in your search results. Hope this helps. Oh & this might help also. Good luck!

Default Unwanted downloads AGAIN!!!

Once again I have downloaded Limewire and once again, as soon as I started downloading files, Limewire starts downloading files that I did not select for downloading. I have been through this time and time again. Any advice? I am at my wits end...

Thanks,
Alaska

Have you done a total virus scan & checked with -ad-ware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ & -Spy Sweeper: http://www.webroot.com/wb/downloads/index.php Did you see the link I left in my last post? It's about somebody who had the same problem. Which AV softw do you use. I have links to online checks if you're interested (Norton, etc.)? These will check your comp whilst you'e online.
